I run DSL Highspeed at home and since weds on BOTH of my computers, DSL will not connect. It has an Authentication error which means something should be wrong with the account. However BELL Sympatico can log in as me through my account from their computer through their modem and so can I from my computer here at work. But through MY modem, its not. I have been waiting now for almost 48 hours for someone there to call me back. I want a new modem, mine is like 4 years old. Someone mentioned to me that maybe my Window 98 has a problem, but for the same problem to occur on BOTH my computers at the same time? Anyone have any ideas?Thanks.

Are you using a router? If not do you get a Error 645 when trying to connect?

I was on the router but disconnected it and went direct from modem to computer and am recieving an E00057 Authentication Failed message. Does it to both computers. Without the router obviously only one computer can connect to the internet but when I switch the line from one computer to the other, its the same thing.It was doing the Authentication Failed when I was going through the router also.

Have to tried to re-configure your PPPoE connection?

If you mean uninstall and reinstall the access manager program... I did that. But the odds of it goofing up on both computers at the same time? I did the reinstall but nothing happened. Bell Sympatico had me try different passwords they changed for me from their system and it still did not work for me.

Well it sounds like there could be line problems. I would unplug all your phones and try to connect. If not try another jack. Also make sure you have filters for all your phones. Can your modem sync with your ISP?Try this link for more info with your ISP. http://www.dslreports.com/forum/sympat

Well see here is how it works, if the filters are not plugged in, the phone will not work either and it does. All the filters are in place, I checked all of those already. If there was a line problem, the computer would at least try to connect and end up giving me a connect problem. But its not even getting that far. It needs to authenticate and then connect/attempt to connect but its not even authenticating. Now the computer that is not connected to the internet... it will try and connect but won't because there is no line, but as soon as I plug the line into that computer, it authenticate fails.And your talking to a guy who knows what the ON button and Ctrl Alt Delete does and thats it lol.

sorry, there phil. i don't have any clue on the dsl modems. i have a cable modem thru a local co here in town, use msn for my internet service itself, and then have aol dial up as my back up for jic. hopefully you get things up and running and it's not a computer issue.

One more thing to try, Mavrik. Good way to check to make sure it's not the lines in the house:Take your DSL modem to the phone box on the outside of your house and connect it there directly. I know that sounds like a pain in the @$$, and it is a bit, but it's just another troubleshooting step.I remember posting on DSLreports.com and being given the same advice

Do you have a static IP programmed into your network properties? If you go from router to modem, a static IP will not connect due to subnetting. Try this, your IP lease may have expired. Go to start>run>and type winipcfg. Select the adapter you use for you connection and click on release all and then click on renew all. This may help.

As stated earlier I know how to turn my computer on... lol but no idea how to do much else. I called BELL on saturday, talked to an english guy this time who had me try everything the other fellow had, they checked the line and said everything was going through very strong, no line issues right to the modem. They wanted me to take out my modem and try someone else's to see if it was their modem but they refused to just come out with one and try themselves. Or take my harddrive to work and hook it into the modem here and try that. But they were dragging their feet SOOO badly I with all they would do was send me (by friday april 2) updated install disc... I had to prove to them my modem was junk before they would even consider coming out... I told them no thanks, turn off my phone and internet, I'll use my cell and connect to cable internet. I called Rogers Cable on sunday and they hooked me up this morning. Now THATS service. Unlike being down since weds of last week and them not doing crap all.I doubt the IP expired... my computer is a pentium III 500, has been updated and for its IP and my brother's BRAND NEW computer IP to expire at the exact same time is just not making sense to even the computer stupid as myself lol...

well, atleast you're getting somewhere w/ rogers then! glad even my podunk town in alaska has faster/better service than there! yeesh!

That is some pretty bad service! My ISP screwed up my account last week too, but they got back to me right away and stayed on the phone till they had it resolved. Unfortunately, it's gonna take them till Wednesday to hook me back up

Well went home, hooked up the Rogers High Speed, dled the install disc and now it works just fine. I couldn't be happier.And yes, another reason to move.

well, good to see it workd and you are happy w/ your new cable modem.

I'm one satisfied new customer...4 years of loyal dedication to the other guy and they drag their feet and give me the cold shoulder.less then 12 hours after I called Rogers Cable, they had me hooked up and running... unlike 5 days of "well try this... oh try that... well it does seem like a modem but we can't send a new one out unless you can really prove to us its the modem..."

well, glad you got things running! now, if only we can get carrie up and running again... hmm...

Yeah its great to be up and running though her prob I think was different from mine and should be working fine when they get her switched back on.
