I realize most of the members on this forum are probably too young to remember how popular Schwinn Stingrays were back in the late 60's and early 70's, but check out Schwinn's new Stingray.

With a nice drop. some 22" wheels, a spoiler and a supercharger, I bet that baby can do a 0-60 in 3 seconds flat!

I agree, as a 40 year old who had several Stingrays in the early to mid 70s, that has absolutely no resemblance to the orginal. That'd be like showing a 70 year old Harley fan a V-Rod and expecting a positive reaction... By the way, how long to I have to have the Jr. Member title

If I remember correctly, Schwinn was bought out 1st by Giant and then Giant sold the name to Huffy. What a bummer, I always liked Schwinn's. In fact I used to have a Stingray when I was a kid, it was yellow with black bmx handlebars and a sparkley yellow bananna seat.

Yup. My Schwinn Stingray (1966?) was a single-speed lime green with a white banana seat, chrome 'shorty' fenders, and hi-rise handlebars.

My 1st bike was a Mini-Stingray when I was 5, so that must have been around 1966. I remember I was following around a mailman REAL close and he didn't know I was behind him. He overshot a mailbox and had to back up a little. My front tire was up against his bumper when he backed up. I still remember the back bumper of the mailtruck actually lifted up on the wheel for about a second, then it collapsed the front forks & wheel. Wasn't hurt, but I bet I scared the do-do out of the mailman because I was crying my head off because my bike was broke.

Even in the early 90's, their bikes were popular in races and they still made some decent lines. Now walmart has mountains of cheaply made schwinns, rusting in the elements at the front of the store on discount.

I'm in the process of restoring an old stingray. Bananna yellow with a leparod seat and the five speed shifter up next to the ape hanger handlebars.

Even I remember as a kid that Schwinn's were the Cadillac of bicycles. My dad had some kind of big 5-speed Schwinn that he bought in the early 80's. That was such a nice bike. It sat around the basement until I was big enough to ride it, which I did during my preteen years. When I was 13, I got a Mongoose Decade (still have it) because my friends all told me the Schwinn looked like the bike Pee-Wee Herman rode in the movie "Big Top Pee-Wee". My mom got rid of the Schwinn, but I kept the seat from it because it is still the most comfortable bike seat that I've ever tried. Big, wide saddle type seat with two springs underneith that can be adjusted for tension. It was a great bike, even the red paint was still in excellent condition when mom threw it away.
