Boy oh boy am I ever having a crappy day today.....and now I discover that my windshield is cracked! Cracked!!!! 13 000kms later...I am not sure how it happened but all I know is that I will have to go get it fixed.Man I am having such a crappy day , everything that could go wrong IS!Friggin Murphy's law

Go outside and look at your windshield. Try to look for a little chip missing somewhere along it, or run your fingernail down it and look for a snag) If you find one then that's most likely where a rock/road debris hit it. My windshield company wouldn't replace my windshield because it had one. I can understand a rock wasn't their fault, but it had only been like 2 weeks since I had it replaced ><

The wife have the car out while you were gone? Maybe a stone chip that needed just the right temp to turn onto a long crack? sorry to hear your luck man.

Mine cracked just sitting in the sun on a cold day (not a Vibe though). No stone chip, no nothing.

What kind of insurance do you have ArcsVibe? If you have full coverage, then a stone hitting your windshield should be covered. I had my Vibe for three weeks when the same thing happened. The split when damn near across the whole windshield. My insurance picked up the cost for me though, and my premium did not increase since I was not responsible for the damage.

lol.... well, after 2 wks, my windshield was cracked. i also accumulated another 5-6 rock pits and stars in the windshield. it doesn't matter if i replace it or not until it gets really bad. this is alaska and is just a part of life. we call it the alaskan beauty mark of cars!

paint is surprisingly not bad at all. w/ the exception of my ditch dive early this month, looks decent.

Thanks everyone! My insurance will take care of it, but I am going to the dealer first for them to check it out first. I looked at it closely and it looks like a really small rock hit it and then it just spread but like Salsa! told me better to have it checked out by the dealer first.It is just that type of *^&&%^^&& day today Thanks for letting me rant!

Easy way to see if it was caused by a stone chip is to run a ballpoint pen across the crack, it will always find the impact chip.

Funny thing though, going out of town this weekend my wife counted 4 Vibes and 1 Matrix with the windshield cracked......could this be a new defect??

Maybe it's because they allowed those 17" wheels with the moonroof...j/k

I am going to the dealer and letting them look at it, it was just weird to see that many Vibes with cracked windshields....

yikes! that really sucks! coming home tonight, got another rock pit in the windshield! i counted and that makes it 6! with the snow, the plow trucks and sanding trucks are just killing my car! small rocks everywhere and they are easier to get kicked up and thrown! they all seem to head for my windshield though!!!

I saw about 6 or 7 Vibes that weekend and about a dozen Matrixes.....yeah the hotspot alright LOLYes crap happens but come on? If it is a defect they have to stand by there product.Hope you must have a magnet or something for those rocks LOL

ya, i know! i'll have to try and get some pics of the dings and cracks on the windshield. then hopefully, sam, you won't feel so bad about yours!

I'm gonna watch my windshield from now on....

My sunfire developed a crack that spread mildly, maybe 2 inches total. My insurance covered getting it repaired and didn't even make me pay a dime.

Well I am going this morning to get it fixed and will keep you all posted.Sam

UPDATE:Well the friggin morons at G. Lebeau have to order the rubber moulding since it is not in stock at their warehouse or at 4 dealers they called. It has to be ordered from Mexico(?) and will arrive in 2 weeks.........arrrgghhhh I am really starting to get fustrated with the lack of parts for the Vibe.....Here is a pic of my cracked windshield.

They had to do something similar to fix my windshield when it cracked, I was like "ARGGHHHH"I hope it gets there soon so it can get fixed, man. Good luck.

Two weeks? The GM warehouse in MTL and the one here in Woodstock didn't have one? Not even our supplier in Lancing MI? That sucks.

ok i tried to get a few pics of my windshield. you can see the long crack from a side angle on the passengers side.

Uh... dude your not Hope lolThose cracks do look bad, but to replace a windshield around here costs like... $200 with window and labour... but I guess as Sam has pointed out, that rubber seal is hard to get.

lol! um... here replacement windshields will run about $400-500 installed. and it doesn't matter. no since replacing it when another big (removed) truck is going to crack the new one... i'd give it 1 wk tops before i got a crack!!! don't call it the alaskan beauty mark for nothing!!! lol

Heeeyyyyyy, with the insurance thing, I'd go through them. I have a $500 deductable and my insurance covered my windshield not just once, but twice so far. I never had to pay a cent.

will not allow $0 comp here. too many windshields have been claimed! so lowest is $100 deduct.

my insurance company (allstate) has a seperate deductable for windshields. I have a $500 deductable, but one of my other car's windshield cracked and they replaced it for $50. You should contact your agent to find out how much it would be. Also, some insurance companies will fix it for free if it can be patched.

well if it's a pit or star then yes, they will do it no charge. but i'm talking replacing the entire windshield. my family claimed too many and so we cannot get a $0 deduct for here. i have 6 pits and a crack on mine. they have 5 pits, but no cracks. they just replaced the windshield in their truck about 4 months ago from a huge crack... so since i can still see out of it and it doesn't affect my vision, then it will remain there until it gets bad enough for me to replace. anchorage is the number one road construction capital in the nation. very few windshields remain unscathed by the construction fury! lol

Well, I kept saying how lucky I was NOT to have it happen, and sure enough, today, the windshield was cracked by a flying rock. Will call the insurance company tomorrow, hopefully they'll help me out! Shall keep y'all posted...

The weird part is you can't feel any part of the crack on either side of the windshield. The interior and exterior sides are both smooooooth as glass...but the only deformity is where the rock hit...kinda bizarre. *shrug*

That is weird for a crack that size. Let's just hope that while the insurance comany is pondering their stance, it doesn't get any bigger.

LOL! Agreed...I'm hoping that doesn't happen except for cold weather, but I guess we'll find out!

Cold and extreme heat are the only things I've seen cause that. I don't imagine you'll see too much of either in the next couple of days.
