What tires should I get?

Refer back to my chocolate milk / flat tire saga in this former thread:
http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=9145Well, I stopped by a tire shop today, and they confirmed, two punctures, and the tire is beyond repair. On top of that, I only have 4/32 of tread on all my tires. In the words of the girl at the shop, they're at the "manufacturer's recommend disposal point." In other words, need 4 new tires. Now's my chance to get some rocking tires. I want something that is going to grip the road like no other tire before. Something that has amazing dry traction, but won't crap out on me like the Goodyears I had did when it got wet.I've heard amazing things about Yokohamas, but also remember hearing Kumhos, Hankoooks, and NIttos were good.I'd like everyone's feedback, preferably on personal experiences with these brands. If there's a particular tire you truly recommend, please tell me not only he brand, but what model tire you got.I have until Thursday morning to decide so I can tell the dealer what to put on.Thanks guys! EDIT: Pardon my lack of spelling skills. The option "KUMO" is supposed to read "KUMHO."

Lots of Kumho fans, eh? Does anyone who voted for them actually own them? Which models? How do you find they handle on dry roads? Wet roads? Snow? How's the treadwear going?I'm looking for a non-winter tire, but wnat it to be somewhat capable in the offchance I get an unseasonal snow. It does happen in NJ...

sounds like you want major performance....I would say Falken Azenis but they are only barely street legal and not so good in rain.....i think the Kumho Ecsta MX is your baby! Read up on that one!-Phil

Yeah want unparalleled dry performance with excellent wet performance.BUT...I don't wanna break the bank. I'd say I don't wanna spend more than $100 a tire if possible.

Ewwwww! Touring tires....GROSS! Touring = soft, mushy sidewalls for ride comfort and school bus handling. (Personal Opinion through personal experience)-Phil

The Falken FK451 is also an ulta-high performance tire like the Azenis. The FK451 is also an excellent rain tire. They look really cool as well. I just got a set but have not used them yet as we have just gotten another 6" of snow in the last few days. I put 225/50ZR/16 on stock 16" aluminum wheels. They run about $85.00 each in the US.

heh well i'd recommend the tires i have. Stiff and lots of traction, did a few corners at 30-40mph and have yet to hear the tires squeal. Excellent rain traction had a day or two of snow and they were rather good. But they were pretty expensive. Yokohama Parada Spec 2

go to
http://www.carreview.com they have a lot of customer reviews on the lot of tires your talking about getting. My personally recommendation would be the Nitto 555, excellent in the dry, you won't kill yourself in the rain and there a lot cheaper than a set of Toyo Proxies, I've seen a few guys with 18s run with in autoX last year and they seemed to last a quite a long time. Plus the Nitto's got a very good review.

Well, turns out I destroyed two wheels as well as two tires. So I had to pay $180 for two new steelies. Was going to take the opportunity to just get A/M wheels, but the ones I want are $180 PER WHEEL, so I figured I'll suck it up and live with steelies, despite the fact I hate them. The dealer is searching for Kumho Ecsta MX tires...mentioned Yokohama, he said he hasn't had the best experiences with them, so he wouldn't recommend them. If he can't find Kumho's, though, I'm just gonna go with RS-As...Baah...wish I had more money to do what I want with the car...

I too would recommend that Nitto's. I had Nitto NT450s on my previous car and they were nice. I was going to go with the 555s on my Vibe until I seen the Neo Gen. Those are great in the rain and they have great traction when it is dry.

The TigerPaw's I have are the best tires I think I have ever had on any car. They are perfect for snow, rain, and cornering.

yep, its me again with my usual quip on tires: Firestone Dayton Daytonas. H rated gems which retain their grip throughout the entire life of the tire.

Woooo!Dealer just called and told me they were able to get me Kumho Ecsta MX tires and after mounting, balancing, and installation, they came to just about the same it would've cost me to put the Eagle RS-A tires back on.Can't wait to try them out tomorrow!EDIT: Just got home to notice they didn't put Ecsta MX tires on, but Ecsta Supras. The lowest model in their "Ultra High Performance" lineup. Grrr. Oh well, still gotta be better than what I had on there before! Tread design of Ecsta Supra

Quote, originally posted by silverawd26 »Just want to make everyone aware that these tires are Summer Tires from what I am reading and the traction when it rains or snows might not be the best.Silver, I have the 711's...they are classified as a summer tire yet they are still M&S rated and they also have a traction rating of AA. Traction ratings are based on wet braking efficency...so they are pretty much as good as it gets....i have used mine for a year in all kinds of conditions....including a snowy trip to quebec....they are great!

According with tirerack.com, Michelin HydroEdge is highly rated.
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/surveyresults/as.jspcheck also at customer reviews
http://www.1010tires.com/tires...helinWill be looking closely in near future, replacement for poor Conti's !!!and this Michelin HydroEdge (followed closely by Harmony) is on my list. Something that could be driven safely on wet roads and last more than 1-1/2 summer (conti) without any rude driving (not at my age !!! )

Treadwear on those is in the 200's so go easy on them or you could be tire shopping again soon....of course thats the price we pay for better handling.....and a higher degree of safety too!
