noise of engine normal or bad

Hey there all just thought I would pop this question to you all. I was wondering when my engine is warm after I have been driving it for about 10 minutes or so The engine sounds almost like a diesel. I noticed this and I decided to check it out under the hood with it running in the drive way. It isn't as bad as a diesel but it is almost like one. What I have noticed that under load until about 3,000 rpm it you can kindof hear it in the car. I only have about 1300 miles on her and I just want to know if this is normal due to the compression ratio or what. Oh I have always used 93 octane gas in it. ThanksMike

Ok I am sure that many of you by now are going why didn't he use the search engine. Well I did before I posted and the only thing that I have found was the clicking from the purge valves. I hear that too but I wasn't worried about that just more about the engine noise due to compression or valves, what have you. Just wanted to let everyone now that I did search for this before I posted. If anyone has any other posts that they know of on this please let me know just want to make sure it is ok. Thanks in advance.

Doesn't sound normal to me (no pun intended) a lot of rattling or tapping in the engine can be bad. First thing is check to make sure you have enough oil in it, and maybe take it back to the dealer. If the sound is coming from inside the engine, you better get it taken care of quickly.I have the base, not the GT, but the enigine should just purr along happily, not sound like a diesel.

I think that I found the answer that I am looking for on matrixvibe. I am not too sure that it is the same but i am hoping. I want to go to a dealer and have them start another GT on the lot bu the problem is is that there is none around here to look at I have been looking for days and I have yet to see one. Here is the thread though check it out peoples and see what you think.
http://www.matrixvibe.net/foru...noise Thanks for the insite though I don't think it is that bad just noticeable. Later And here you all go I just went out and ran the motor it does it when it is not fully warm but I guss that it seems more noisy after I have driven it awhile I am not sure I am going to have to listen to it tomorrow. But I made a clip so that everyone can hear and let me know what they think

I guess that the clip was too big or something I will try to get it up if not I hope that you all are understanding what I mean.

that clip does sound like some big Perterbuilt. I don't know if that's normal for a GT or not, but it doesn't sound as bad as I was thinking

It does sound a bit odd..but it's hard to tell with a recording.. If I have the time, i'll try to record a clip of my GT tomorrow.

It's probably the EVAP VSV (vacuum switching valve). Unfortunately, it's normal.

The sound in that clip sounds to be the VSV, as Rasermon said. It is sadly normal. I've noticed mine doing it quite a bit more lately that usual. I'm not sure why that would be, but...Keep in mind too that the engines in these cars have a very noisy valvetrain to begin with.

What oil are you using? The valvetrain in my GT was noticably louder with mobile one.

my car makes soo many weird noises. remember our GT has alot of high performance stuff from the factory like timing chain which makes stuff noisier. When i downshift into second and am coming to a stop theres usually a weird whining noise (not liek the reverse whine). But, ive been in other ones and they make these noises as well...i wouldnt worry unless you feel a change in performance

Thanks Dmitri that helps at least makes me feel better. I was thinking that it was normal but I have yet to find any other GT's in the area to listen to. Thanks again

dmitri, you may want to have the dealer take a listen to the noise your talking about. It could be your throw bearing acting up.

dmitri I know the whining that you are talking about mine does it and I am not to worried about it due to the lower gear ratio that our cars have in them. I would still like to find another GT in the area to dive and see if there are any noise differences. Cause now when I start in the morning the heat shield I am assuming, noise is coming from underneath the car is rattling or buzzin glike a beatch. So I don't know. Later
