Third Brake Light Cover

Here is why I shouldn't work on my own car.I ordered and received the third brake light "internal" decal from Grafxwerks (looks great, by the way). Very simply, the directions say to take off the cover to the third brake light (held on by 2 10mm bolts). Well, I don't see any bolts. So, thinking that two fastener things are the bolts, I give a little tug on them with a flathead screwdriver, and CRACK. The fastener broke. So, with my wisdom, I do the same thing to the other fastener...CRACK. I have the cover off, but it turns out to be the wrong cover. (I still don't see the bolts). Anyway, I am able to install the decal by: having my wife pull the correct cover away from the glass while I slip the decal in. It looks pretty good, but I wasn't able to get all of the bubbles out.So, to make a long story short (I know, too late)...does anybody out there (first) know the fasteners I am talking about and (two) happen to know the part number for the fastener so I can call up my dealer and find out how much this is gonna cost me to fix. (The fasteners are about 3/4 inch long and almost looks like the piece of plastic you would hammer into drywall before putting in a screw.)

Yes, that is exactly what I am talking about. Cool, only 3 bucks.

My apologies for replying to a decade-old thread, but I'm seeking the fastener mentioned and have been unsuccessful thus far. (I accidentally snapped one by banging the third brake light's housing with an object that I was loading into the hatch.) I read through every relevant discussion that I could find, with this one coming closest to identifying the part.

Can someone please point me to a specific item listing? I'l gladly go to AutoZone or any other auto parts store, but I don't know what to buy. I saw some possibilities on eBay, but there were many variants (and I don't know which, if any, is correct).

Thanks in advance!

On the first generation vibes, there is a thin black plastic cover that is held in place on each side by a plastic rivet type body fastener. I think you are looking for that fastener.

If you want the exact part, it's Toyota part number 90467-07071-22. You could probably stop by a toyota dealer's parts department and buy/order them, or buy them online. Online, a lot of places sell them in packs of 25, but one place you can buy individual ones is http://www.toyotapart.com/90467-07071-22.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I think the way to remove those to access the light bulb is to either pry the center piece out, or perhaps push it in all the way. Trying to remove the entire fastener with the center pin in place will be trouble. Its another of those things about working on cars. You'll read some step by step instructions, it will say something like "remove the cover" or "unplug the connector" and it will take an hour to figure out the secret release mechanism

Weird that something in Reynoma's signature threw the thread into bold italics. Happens in other threads he posted to also. Haven't seen him here for a long time

Excellent! I assumed that the OEM part was from Toyota, but I didn't know what to call it (and my guesses were off the mark). It appears that my local Toyota dealer has it in stock for 71¢.

Thanks very much!
