I just read a post about someone having problems with their Cat Converter, and I was a bit confused. When I had my stock piping taken off and replaced with a full cat back system, they told me that there wasn't a Cat Converter anywhere under the car. They said it must be something new GM is doing, so I was content with that answer. But if there are Cat Converters, and I'm driving w/o one, then aren't I breaking the law? >_>The only changes I've done to the exhaust is the addition of the full Cat Back system and a weld-on aftermarket exhaust, which were both done at the same time. I bought my Vibe with 11,000 miles on it from the Pontiac Dealer's wife, and I doubt she would have illegally modded the car.

Here are the TWC (Three-Way Catalytic Converter) locations for AWD: FWD: I'm not sure which item in those pics is the actual TWC. Maybe someone else can shed some insight on that...

The base 2WD Vibe (and the GT too, I expect) has two converters. In the second picture, the first cat is the fatter section of pipe where the 5. line points and the second is the fatter part between where the 1. and 2. point. The object near the 3. is the resonator. In the first pic, it looks like the two cats are in a separate assembly at the left end, but the pic isn't good enough to be certain. If so, it would be easier to install a true "Cat back" system on an AWD, because it would be a bolt on instead of having to cut the pipe between the resonator and the second cat. (Also, if that assembly does include the two cats, then besides two converters, the system has two resonators and a muffler! No wonder it's down 7 HP vs. the 2WD!)

if your cats were taken out (or broke in my case)you would get a check engine light(unless they created a bypass circuit which i doubt) so yours are probably still there.difinitely the first one is stock, you may have a aftetrmarket second one, but most likely your new exhaust starts after the stock second cat like in the magnaflow posts in this forum.

Kk, probably just someone who didn't know what he was looking for then. Thanks for your replies, all. ^^
