				stupid question: how to measure wheel

				this is really dumb...am i missing something....i was comparing the diameter of my tires to the new set that im getting and while i was at it i measured my stock 16inch wheels.....they measure up to 17inch diameter.  Do they take that 16inch measurement somewhere other than the front surface of the wheel?  I found it strange that to the eye (and the tape measure) the visible surface of the rim is 17inches.

				The face of the wheel includes the lip that the tire bead sits on. That's where you get 17". Here's a good explanation of how to measure rims:

				yeah...that makes sense.....so wheels are always one inch bigger than there actual size.
