I realize that probably 98% of you out here already know this information, but I didn't and was curious how my engine works. I thought I would share this web site with the others out here who wonder as well.

The 3rd gear syncro was shot in our 3 ton GMC dump at work and the mechanics had the tranny out of the truck on the workbench and all torn apart last week. I made the one mechanic explain to me basically how it worked. I'd seen automatics torn apart before, but never a manual. They have the manuals for the Mack trucks all apart sometimes, but they look a good bit different (and A LOT bigger) compared to a regular manual tranny. The one in the Vibe might even be half the size of the one I was looking at the other day.BTW--that site has some great info on how an automatic tranny works, too. Wow, I never realized how much simpler a manual tranny is compared to an automatic. I never really understood how all the parts in an automatic worked. Now that I've read that, I understand about 95% of it. It boggles my mind to know that someone actually sat down and thought all that stuff up to make an automatic work. It had to have been the work of a collaboration of mechanical geniuses!
