How do you cover the hump in the back floor ?It's almost impossible for a person not step on the hump when getting out of the car from the opposite side.Ideas please ?thank you.

I've never owned a car that didn't have that back there. I don't understand what you mean by cover it. It's carpeted already.

people stepping on the actual carpet in the middle instead of keeping their feet on the floor mats? I'd probably look for a basic generic floor mat to lay on the hump, something that would grab the carpet and not slide around, but would protect the carpet and still be easy to pull out and clean. You might not be able to easily find one narrow enough, but you should be able to find a generic floor mat that you could cut to fit back there. Check out the auto parts stores or departments, you can probably find something that will work and come rasonably close to matching the color.I haven't needed anything like that. Don't think there are any Vibe/Matrix specific floor mat sets that provide custom fitted full rear floor coverage, just the two little area mats.

I know I know, I am (removed)... no pun intended.I am usually the only person in the car so it's not a huge issue for me at all, I am just curious...The new Civics have a flat floor though, that's a nice touch IMO.thanks for your input guys

That is something Ive wondered about for years: Why the hump in the middle floor of a front wheel drive vehicle. Usually nothing on the underside of the car (once inawhile, exhaust pipe). I can see it in rear wheel drive vehicles. IIRC, Ive seen a few vehicles without it.

In the vibe, it could be there to provide one body style and accomdate the AWD model. In other cars where there is no AWD option, it might be to provide a place to route the exhaust. I had a minivan with a totally flat floor. Stuff would roll all over the place.

If you think about it, it could be weight distribution across the length of the car. Makes it so it won't bow down the middle since there's no frame...
