Does anyone know if you can take the plastic gray bumpers and side panels off and change them to the bumpers and sidepanels that are the same as the car color?

You can -- but IMHO if that's what you wanted, why didn't you get a monotone car?But if you decide to do that, let me know, I might buy those cladding pieces off of you!

The Vibe can be ordered 2-tone, with the grey body moldings or in monotone which comes with colour matched moldings. If your car is a 2-tone, I think you could have them painted to match but it will be more costly than ordering it that way in the first place.

I didn't get the monotone package because when I first bought the car they didn't have any in the color I wanted nor did I really think about the negative things about the plastic. Things like not bein' able to put a body kit on it without it looking all weird. Does anyone know about how much it would cost to change it, or would I be better off just trading the car in for a different Vibe....possibly the GT if I can find someone to teach me how to drive a manual that is.

No need to change. The plastics are the same. You would just have to get your current plastic painted. This issues actually really pisses me off, because you pay for the monotone and you get the same TEXTURED plastic as on "two tone" But that's Pontiac for ya!You could save some on labor charge at the bodyshop by removing all the cladding yourself and simply take it to them.

It is cimpletly flat and i can wax it without trouble.

Positive...take a look at a monotone real close. You can see the texture. Even the insurance adjuster noticed it when I had my rear bumper appraised for damage. He said, "Gonna have to order a new bumper. You'd be able to see the repair because of the lack of texture on area where it would have to be sanded."You could check with the dealer, and I bet there is only one part number!It can be waxed and such because of the layers of paint that have been applied to it. This smooths out some of the cladding's texture. It is smooth, but not as smooth as the rest of the body panels. Next time you have it all waxed up, look down the side. You'll see that the reflection is a little more wavey on the cladding. I'm talking fine texture, not warpage. There's also a flex additive that goes on before the paint to help prevent the paint from chipping. It does as it says, flexes!

Um, actually, ya...all though they're not the greatest quality pics in the world. It should be like glass. It's not. I'm sure with some colors, it's easier to see than others. Mine being Abyss, it's easier to spot. http://www.pontiac-parts-dealer.com/ shows only one piece for each section. Although it does have a "painted" option.We need to get Ragingfish to look up the part numbers in his hand-dandy book. Also, the bumper is the exact same price I just paid for mine.

I looked at the part #'s and they are the same. as a matter of fact it says "paint to match". well I'll be... thats cool for a two-toners IF you wanted to go mono-tone, but like you said why?

For what it's worth, I ordered my Vibe as a Frosty two-tone, because I planned to paint it yellow. When I was getting a quote, the shop said it would be $1,000 extra to do a really good job painting the cladding, to get out all the texture! (The list price in Canada for monotone was only ~ $600 at the time.)

Ok, you were right... The cladding is the same on mono and 2 tones.But the primer and paint on the cladding make less niticable the "texture" of the 2 tone. Exactly like when I painted my mudguard

Don't you love how pontaic does that kind of thing? I'm glad you can change it though. The more I think about it the less I like the two tone, plus, all the other vibes around my area are two tone....if I was monotone I would stand out a little more Looks like I need to start checkin' on prices to get it changed.
