GenVibe - Community for Pontiac Vibe Enthusiasts

When I put my vibe in any gear but park and reverse it makes this odd sound. Kind of like a whiny metallic sound. Has anyone else had this problem? I am worried that there might be some transmission trouble. I have only had it for 8 months and it only has 12000 miles on it. I have already had problems with water leaks and if these problems persist I am considering getting rid of the vehicle. Any suggestions? Sincerely, Vibe_By_Assoc

Not sure if its a transmission noise or what, but everytime I push on the gas i hear a whiring noise that sounds like its coming from the engine/or on the right side of the car....

A friend of mine said it may be a loose heat sheild that just vibrates when the car is in gear...not sure, but its pretty annoying and seems to get louder when i accelerate.

Yep, heat shields are very annoying. If it is not 40 below zero in Colorado and you have some time, crawl around under the car and pull and push on all the sheet metal you can find. See if anything appears loose. Heat shields are famous for causing those "mystery noises".
