Take a look at the sign behind the engine stand. Two things jump out.

a. No sense spending money to make minor revisions to reflect any changed claims for 04 version. Engine is still the same.b. "World's best powertrains" is what is legally known as "mere puffing". I understand Numi is a GM plant.

Toyota is paying '04 XRS buyers $250 for the 7HP drop from the 180HP advertised, so accuracy in HP claims is important.Too bad we didn't get one of the "world's best powertrains" in our Vibes.Doesn't NUMMI make more Toyotas than Pontiacs?

I though that the Vibe and Voltz were assembled in the NUMMI plant in Fremont, California and the Matrix was assembled in Ontario, Canada. But in either case, I also was under the impression that the engines and transmissions were made and assembled in Japan and sent in cargo ships to North America in crates and just dropped into the cars at the final assembly plant.

I thought I also heard a while back that the 2ZZ was in shorter supply and that is also why they push the base model so much.

i know that yamaha makes the 2zz, do they also make the 1zz? maybe thats why there is a shorter demand of the 2zz, b/c yamaha cant keep up

I didn't think of that. Both engines are Toyota engines, just the 2ZZ is sent to Yamaha for the lift work on the cylinder heads. The rest of the motor is Toyota. Some are saying that some of the electronics on the Vibe motors is GM/Delco parts but I can't say for sure.
