Recently I have noticed that there are more and more pop-up ads when using simple sites such as yahoo.com....I have by internet access through Sympatico and the minute I open I.E. I have at least 2 or 3 pop-up ads. Is there any way to stop this from happening???

Go to a site like http://cnet.com and do a search for popup stoppers. They have some free ones to download that will stop about 90% of popup ads. If you are getting popups as soon as you open IE, you may want to try a program like spyware or spybot to see if you have a virus on your computer.

You may also want to check out the Google Toolbar with built-in pop-up blocker:http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=7453

You might also want to get something like AdAware http://www.lavasoftusa.com/ to clean off any spyware/tracking stuff

Just remember to click on the "popups" icon in the toolbar to allow popups on this forum if you want I.M.'s to show up. It remembers that setting whenever you revisit this site. Very cool.

Another valuable spyware removal program is SPYBOT. AdAware works great and removes most spyware, but it's not a bad idea to run SPYBOT occasionally too. It sometimes finds stuff that AdAware misses and visa versa. It can be had here: http://www.safer-networking.or...nload

Too many bad guys out there on the net anymore.

I downloaded a pop-up blocker once off of a popup. That's weird isn't it. Some of the sites I go onto have pop-ups that are part of the site so I had to turn off the blocker. Just keep that in mind incase a site you want doesn't work, so you don't go insane trying to re-load something that wont ever come up

I have both Adware and Spybot and when I run Spybot it tells me they can't run together because Adware removes Spybot's backup files thinking they are dangerous.

Yeah, SPYBOT warns you of that when you install it. It reminds you not to delete the SPYBOT files when you run AdAware.
