ArcVibes pictures of the installed MP3 player has me thinking(See http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=7635)I need something on my PC to create these MP3 files. I checked out the following website:http://www.audio2x.com/products.htmCould somebody please look at this and explain to me what feature the "MP3 Workshop XP" program has that the "MP3 Workshop" doesn't have? Why is there a $10 difference?

Looks like the XP version includes a utility for burning audio CD's that is absent from the base version. If all you want to do is rip tracks off audio CDs so you can either play them from your hard disk or cut them as data files to a CD for use in a MP3 CD deck, there's probably lots of CD ripping software out there. I'd bet yank knows which is best.

If you ever upgrade to Win XP or Win 2000 you can use iTunes for Windows which is free and will allow you to burn cd's and create mp3's.

Musicmatch Jukebox Pro is the best software I've used for ripping CD's (taking CD files and record them into MP3 format is known as ripping). I've tried DOZENS of programs too.My favorite combo: MMJB and Roxio Easy CD Creator. Both stellar programs, I recommend both highly! As for Win98, if you can upgrade to Windows XP or even Windows 2000, it will do miracles for stability and compatibility. Also, Windows 98 is about to be decimated in terms of support options. It's now considered "obsolete." Of course, don't fix it if it ain't broken, but if you're having problems with crashing or incompatible hardware, upgrading could be the solution to your problems!

It crashes at least 3 times when I am on my computer. I want a new computer, but I fear having to move/set up everyting on the new one. I'm struggling along.I ended up purchasing MP3 Worshop from Audio2X for $19.95. It does a very good / simple job. I was able to "rip" six CDs of music and burn the MP3's back onto a disc with 230+ MB still left on the disc. I tried it out on my DVD/MP3 player and it sounds great. Thanks for all of the help everybody.

I would HIGHLY suggest iTunes for windows for burning/ripping.You can create up to 320 VBR bitrate MP3s, do a bunch of other stuff, etc etc etc ...Oh yea, it's 100% free. One of the best MP3 encoders out there was put into iTunes, so check that out as well.http://www.apple.com/itunes

Actually, iTunes is a great music ripping/downloading program but you have to pay .99 cents for each song you download and $9.99 for each album. As for ripping, it's great but a tiny bit slow. I know that on a Mac iBook G3 laptop, it works slightly faster. As for burning with iTunes, yes, it works, but with a few errors in the songs. It has happened on multiple occasions that the song is uploaded directly from a store-bought cd and it plays fine on the computer, but then when I burn it, it has skips or relapses. I still reccomend it as a good program though. As for the people paying for programs, I feel that it is unecessary for you to have to pay for them. First try download.com, and if that doesn't work, try a google search for the title of the program and then add "free download" or "crack" after it. Then you can get them for free . Just make sure to check for spyware after because some of these sites are notorious for it.

I use CDEX. It's freeware and has been working great for me. Lots of options and I forgot what the highest bit rate is available, but I use 160kbps all the time. You can find it at: http://download.com.com/3000-2...t-0-1.Later,

I just upgraded my parents' PC to XP frmo 98SE, and it's wonderful. It wouldn't even shut down before, and AOL had to start up about 10 times before it would finally decide to run, and then you were riding the edge of crashing...now it works great, and faster than it ever did. I highly recommend this upgrade. If your CD-ROM drive has trouble reading the CD, find a friend with a Mac, and have them use disk utility to create a disk image of the installation CD and then burn a copy on a CD-R, and it should work fine. The genuine CD has some "secure" thing in the inner band that confused their computer. My Mac, however, didn't give a crap what that CD said about being genuine Microsoft...LOL. And since you are legally entitled to 1 backup copy of anything you own, you're in the clear.Once you get XP...download iTunes for Windows. It's free, it rips, and it gives you access to the iTunes Music Store. It's also a great program.
