using the jack the 2nd time

man, i need a drink. i about had a heart attack going home from work tonight.I was driving somewhere around 45-50 when i hit a piece of wood that someone had left on the road. Scared the sh*t out of me.To make it worse when i pulled over the car got wedged up on top of the wood and i was halfway down a ditch. So when i tried to use the jack it lifted the rear wheel instead of the front one. I was finally able to lift it high enough that i could get the wood out from under the car and i pulled the car over to a flat spot. (the tire was already messed up, so it didnt matter)Did i mention that people go 60+ on this 2 lane road.. didnt feel very comfortable changing a tire while trying to avoid getting hit.Since people wouldnt believe me when i said i hit a big-(removed) piece of wood i took it home as a trophy. /me is going to get a drink and watch some tv.. edit: added the pictureedit again: hmm.. cant get the picture to show up.. going to try my own website instead

even if it weas fixable, things just never seem "right" after they've been repaired...something always seems off...

That is a significant piece of wood! I wouldn't want to fix that wheel, I would never trust it to be right, and wheels/tires are critical to having a safe, road worthy car. If that's the kind of stuff you are likely to have on those owensboro roads, it might not be worth spending money on expensive wheels, get some more steelies.

That sucks. That was obviously a very strong hit. Hope nothing else in the suspension was damaged. The wood probably fell off of some dumbash's pee-cup truck that was overloaded with wood so he can heat his house or garage.Glad you weren't hurt.

It's the first time ive seen major crap on the road, but i may go for the cheap tires because of cost..

I had a chunk of ice fall off a concrete truck the other day and it bounced up and whacked out part of my lower grill and hit my a/c condenser. I don't think the condenser is leaking, but I'm going to head into the dealer and have them look at it. If that needs replacing, I'm giving my ins. co a call.

I have seen smaller stones do damage to a wheel! You're lucky you didn't kill yourself hitting that! But next time Keep Your Eyes on the RoadIt was pitch black and one of the oncoming cars flashed his lights at me, probably to warn me about the wood. It had the oposite effect, i looked up at his car and then WHAM. I did start to slow down when he flashed his lights thou..I'm lucky it wedged itself under the beam you put the jack on instead of under something more important under the car..

Parts can be replaced, lives cant. trueQuote, originally posted by silverawd26 »Check out http://www.tirerack.com for the steelie and hubcap. They will prob charge you around $50-$80 for the rim/wheel cover. The tire (depending on what you have) will cost you abother $80 or so. Also, I would almost bet your alignment is off. Better get that checked. Hope this information helps! Thanks, i may do that or go with some nicer rims.. its a lot of money thou..The dealer quoted me $130 + labor if i have them do it.
