Lift? I'm cornfused

Ok, i keep hearing about this lift....this is what I've narrowed it down to after doing a search:1. It's a button attached to something, just like a NOS kit, where you hit a button and get more power.or 2. It's a point at the rev range where the engine just seems to kick it into high gear. which one is it? I'm cornfused.

After about 6200 RPMs, you should notice that your GT comes to life! There's a dramatic increase in power all the way up to 8300! Have you not went that high in the GT, yet? You're missing life, if not! Try it!The feeling and sound is increased with the addition of an intake. It's similiar to the well known Honda "VTEC" only it leaves them in the dust!

dont worry you wont be going that fast just find a freeway entrance and dont shift out of first or second till you hit 8200rpm. i dont have a gt but ive redlined 1 to and second gear on normal city streets.you should have no problem hitting lift in first almost anywhere.go head try it now!

Trust me, you'll hit lift nomatter WHEN you do it. Just keep the pedal down.I was passing some annoying camry this morning who was going 30 in a 45...I went down to second and hit the gas..about halfway past him..when he looked over...suddenly I went a LOT faster. Thank you LIFT!

i heard it works well if you tape them together w/duct tape as well... so, when you hit lift, is it just like an explosion of power w/a crazy whine?

Yes, but you might kill everyone in a ten foot radius, once those babies blow.

do the 09 2.4's have it?

Sadly the 09 2.4L GT's dont have lift.....Toyota had to take that part out of the engines due to government emissions restrictions. Basically each 2.4 GT is a Scion Tc. 2.4L 158 hp. But no lift

I thought that was what Variable Valve Timing was.At higher RPM's different cam lobes are used.I can definitely feel a kick in the (removed) when I get her revved up.Maybe its just called "kick in the (removed)" now!!!the 2.4 IS a VVT engine.

Here is what I found:Toyota VVT-i - Varies intake timing by advancing the cam chain

vvt-i does what you just said but vvtL-i has variable valve lift too as opposed to just advancing the timing.

Quote, originally posted by wiki »Unique to the ZZ family, the 2ZZ-GE utilizes a dual camshaft profile system (the "L" in VVTL-i, known by enthusiasts as "lift") to produce the added power without an increase in displacement or forced induction. This is similar in concept to Honda's i-VTEC, but the two systems are very different in design and executionToyota commissioned Yamaha to design the 2ZZ-GE and it shares several similarities with street bike engines, the most notable being the relatively high RPM design. The high-output cam profile is not activated until approximately 6,200 rpm (the exact point of engagement is different depending on the vehicle, year, and PCM involved) and will not engage until the engine is sufficiently warmed up. The Toyota PCM electronically limits RPM to about 8200 RPM (or 8400 RPM in some earlier cars) via fuel and/or spark cut.The 2.4l only has variable valve timing. The kick you feel, is just the engine reaching its peak power. Those 4 bangers like to rev and make the most power higher in the rpm range, hence why you may feel the "boost".

The new 2.4L engines are VVT-i engines, as opposed to the xrs corolla and matrix, which are VVTL-i, and the L stands for lift. Variable Valve Timing with Lift Intelligence. Even the new Vibe GT's don't have lift because Toyota took them out due to government regulations, and also they don't own Pontiac, so whatever government says they should do is what they have to do. However, they can still continue making the XRS series and the celica GTS, so lift has not completely disappeared from Toyota's lineup, hopefully not for a long time.

OK. But does that mean you are laughing because a guy in a Focus wanted to try me, and I had no trouble, or that fact that I drive an econobox wagon and raced ANYBODY?I don't make a habit out of "racing" anybody, but it was a freeway that starts at a traffic light, so a lot of people get on it at that intersection.I'm just getting a feel for how she handles, and what sort of power I get. I'm planning a trip down around Mt Rainier and parts south of there, and that area has some great roads for getting a little "into it".

beating an US spec focus is fairly easy as its 2.0L zetec with 140hp. Once the euro spec ones come...then you must be careful

Why yes, it is a ladies tea party, do pass me the crumpets... No need to get worked up about it. Although it's not as bad as some words you could have used, it's still considered profanity, you can use other words to describe what you were wanting to describe. Like sphincter. lol! They'r just trying to keep it clean man... I've seen some forums that were run amok with foulness, and despite me being as crude, foul, and non-PC as it gets even I didn't want to read that stuff.

That word is not profanity, at least in the real world. To live in such purity must make some people feel so much cleaner than the rest. But as long as I can talk about rectums and sphincters, I guess its OK.GenVibe? More like VibePrudes.

Yes, it is in the Bible--in reference to donkeys. Now I don't think you were talking about feeling the kick in the donkey, so that defense is pretty much useless here. The profanity rules are not up for debate. This site is a place to discuss Vibes, not a place to see how many profane words you can use. I doubt there is anything being discussed here that couldn't be discussed in other words. People have different levels of things that offend them--while that word may not offend you (and it doesn't offend me either), it may offend someone else, and that is why we choose not to allow profanity here. It's a simple request--expand your vocabulary and find a different word.
