I traded a 2000 GMC Jimmy ($27,500) for a 2003 Vibe ($17,500) base level and my insur went up. No accidents, tickets etc. everything the same, when I asked the agent why??? they didn't know. Is anyone else seeing this in their area.

Very stange.. Usually, SUV and 4x4 have higher insurance then station wagon...I went from a 01 Montana to my Vibe and my insurance went from $1200 to $975.

That is strange. I traded in a 2000 Sunfire coupe on the Vibe last month and my insurance went down over $250.00 a year.

that's what I thought, think I'll have to shop around a little, thanks for your input.

Well, I traded in a 99 Explorer Sport for my 03 Vibe, and my insurance went up, but not that much (maybe $100, I don't really recall).Anyway, just for kicks, I entered your 2 vehicles into our online lookup http://www.sgi.sk.ca/sgi_inter...c.htm and got this:I assumed that the Jimmy was a Sport and not an S series. I also chose short wheel base. The registration & insurance is $752.00 per year with a zero safety rating (you gain a point per year if you're accident free, and they deduct 1% off the cost for every point you've earned). The 2003 Vibe (which is considered a station wagon) would be $1,177.00 for registration & insurance.I think it has to do with the age of the vehicle.

I'm in the same boat. I know that most auto insurance rate SUV's at a better insurance rating because they are bigger vehicles and most accidents aren't "high risk" unlike cars..btw. My insurance went up too...damnit

Many companies raise insurance rates if the car is new...Here, it's cheaper to insure an older car than a new one...

My insurance actually went up from what I had been paying the year before on my Grand Am, but the insurance company tried to tell me it went down. Here's the deal, I was paying about $1200/year for my Grand Am (btw...no tickets, accidents, etc. I will explain the higher cost in a minute.) and my Vibe insurance is about $1300/year. The insurance company told me that my Grand Am was supposed to go up to $1400/year, so actually, I was paying less. Go figure, it was still more than the year before. Anyhow, I was told the reason my insurance went up has to do with the area in the state I am living in. In this area, not a lot of people have insurance, even though it is the law. Because of the lack of insurance and the very high rate of accidents in this area, the insurance companies are gouging those of us who actually have it. Oh, and, I have my homeowners through the same group. So I am getting the top level of preffered insurance and the homeowners discount. I cannot even begin to imagine what my insurance would be without it.So maybe you are in the same situation?

Shop around....So far I've saved over $250.00 a month switching Companies the minute they raise their rates for renewal.

Did you switch to Geico ?

When I got my vibe, my insurance went up, but that was because of factors that had nothing whatsoever to do with the vibe, so I can't tell what effect the vibe had on mine.

hmm. don't know what to tell you. mine went down w/ my tundra 4x4 from $1500/yr to $1300/yr for the vibe. alot will do with your area and location. if they have higher accidents, fatalities, safety rating on your car, etc. here, 4x4 vehicles are much higher because people over drive them.

My monthly insurance went up 41%, last October (over a year since I got the Vibe), and is now only 6 months and it used to be renewed yearly. This is obviously so they can gouge me every six months and not have to wait a year to do it. If it goes up again, they can say goodbye to me as a customer. I have no accidents and only had one claim with them 3 years ago on my Cavalier for a broken windshield.

My ins. was higher on my 95 pathfinder than it is on my Vibe. Safer for you and other people.

On 10-31-03 traded a 2001 Chrysler PT purchased at full MSRP of $18,880 for a 2004 Chrysler T&C Van MSRP $24,465 costing $18,500 after rebates/discount. Insurance did not change at all - still about $630 a year. The 2003 Vibe MSRP $18,690 costing $13,645 after rebates/discount costs about $640 a year to insure. $500 coll deduct, $50 comp deduct. 500M liability and uninsured coverage. Pleasure driving classifcation - less than 3 miles to work.

Wow!!!I pay 1089.00$ CDN for my Vibe but insurance is very costly in Montreal.

Actually with GMAC it's like $800.00 something for 6 months The down payment was somewhere around $270.00 not to mention my entire car expense is all going to one corporation. GMAC

Maybe I should give them a call.....I do know though that living on the island of Montreal causes me to pay higher insurance rates.

But I was driving a 92 Chevy Cavalier...Montreal get highter quote du to highter risk of being stolen or get into an accident.

My rate with them right now is $84/month for both my boyfriend and I (I can't remember the exact figure but its in that area). Previous to that it was $60 something... they raised it in October and reduced the length of it from 1 year of coverage to only 6 months of coverage.

My new insurance for the Vibe is 527.50 $CAN (full coverage, 250$/100$ deductible and including tax). I'm with La Capitale and they offer a 50$ rebate for a new internet client. But I think I have a very good price but I don't live in Montréal...

Salut VibeSalsa!!!I am also with Le Capitale but you see the difference where you live? I pay 1080$ or so, am 34 years old and married, work about 16 kms from the office and work as a finance supervisor. have had 0 claims in the past 6 years. I do about 20 000kms a year and live on the island of Montreal!I do agree though that Le Capitale gave me the lowest rate and I love their service....now I should think about moving off the island to get a better rate

Ours went down from $71.00 to $51.00 a month. We had a 2003 $### Focus now a 2004 Vibe Base. About time they give us a cut.

Lots goes into a models insurance rates. Theft, cost of repair, area where you live, age, and likelyhood of accidents. The problem with that last one is that actuarians calculate how common a vehicle is to have an accident and surcharges everone that buys that model. Your driving record figures in also but a model with more incidents starts at a higher rate. Many Vibes are sold to inexperienced drivers or agressive drivers that mod their cars so it will cost more for everyone to insure. I've got a GT and pay about $700 yr in Chicago but I'm closing in on the big 5-0. I'm sure that helps.
