hey, I noticed some people have avatars that are like movie clips...is there any way I could put a little 5 second drifting video as my avatar or is that not possible...

Easiest way is to catch each frame of the movie as a gif file, then use an animated gif program (such as Jasc Animation Shop) to compile them into one animated gif file.

I hate reviving such an old thread, but how do you get the avatar to move? I created the animated gif but when I load it to my avatar it doesn't move.

i believe it's something about the software, when it uploads sometimes it won't let it move. so it just stays in place. only a few have gotten theirs to actually move.i know joatman had one of a dog running or jumping, but it just shows a pic of the dog in the air. lame, eh?

That thing's pretty hideous looking, Merzbow!I would guess the move/no-move problem is an animated GIF formatting/compatability issue. May depend on what's used to create it?

I just saved a bunch of them from different websites and then I see wich ones work. I have about 30 avatars but only about 30% of them move when posted here. I just try different ones till one moves.

I asksed zeroforum about the animated avatar problem and got some noncomittal answer about avatar images are reformatted "for security reasons". I only have one piece of software to create animated gifs, jasc's animation shiop, and the forum software is not happy with my animated gifs for some reason. If anyone finds a gif animator software that works here reliably, please let us all know. I want my running genvibe dog back

I've tried both CorelPhotopaint and Ulead GIF Animator - neither one works after I upload them.

Some members (not necessarily in this forum) have 1mb animated avatars that seem to run at ~30fps. Combine that with the 16,24, or 32-bit color depths and my laptop feels like it's gonna catch fire trying to animate them all.I personally think av complexity should be limited so people with slow laptops...like me, can display the pages easily . I can't imagine how it must be for our 56k users.
