Recently aquired set of four OEM 16" vibe steel take-off wheels to replace 17" aluminum wheels on 2003 Vibe GT for the winter. Got OEM wheel covers, but not the OEM lug nuts. Unfortunately the wheel covers use lug nut caps for attachment to the wheel. These lug nut caps require a special lug nut with an outside thread. While auto parts stores have "GM style" lug nuts with the correct M12 x 1.5 internal thread, the external thread diameter is only 19 mm which is too small for the Vibe lug caps which apparently require an approximate 26 mm outside thread diameter. The required (very) "special" OEM lug nut (GM part number 88972746) is available from Pontiac at a price of "only" $16.75 each. For comparison, the slightly smaller (19mm) GM style nut is available at Prestige Wheel for $2.25. This 644% extra cost for the GM part results in a cost of $335.00 to attach the wheel covers instead of a reasonable $45.00 for the 20 nuts required. Please comment on alternate source for the GM lug nut, a similar aftermarket lug nut, alternate attachment method for the Vibe wheel cover, or aftermarket wheel covers which attach differently.In the mean time, I have purchased 20 open end M12 x 1.5 lug nuts (no outside thread) at AutoZone for $.79 ($15.80 total) to attach wheels, however the naked steel wheels do nothing the enhance the looks of the Vibe.

Those are some very expensive lug nuts. I checked at GMPartsDirect.com and it shows the GM list price of $16.75 and their price of $9.88 each. That will cost you $197.60 + s/h to get the full complement of 20 lug nuts. I would suggest checking out the price for the same lug nuts for a Toyota Matix if it uses the same thing. The other option will be to check the junk yards or salvage yards or seach here at http://car-part.comGood luck

i went to a auto part store and bought chrome lug 5 packs for about 5 bucks a pack.

You probably need to look for "Toyota style" lug nuts for a Vibe. Maybe you can find some that will work but are marketed for Corolla or Matrix

I bough some lug nut from Toyota for $3 each, instead of the $22 for 1 Pontiac lug nuts

Just stripped a wheel stud on my 2004 Vibe. Thanks to this thread, found this diagram from http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/catalog/frameset.cfm.
