I just put a 40 series muffler on my GT. It sounds pretty good but I think it coukd be better. I left the stock resonator on thinking it might keep the db level down, it does. I think I might remove it and see if that makes it a little bit more aggressive sounding.

The 40 Series is designed for big block V8 powered cars. I'm curious as to why you chose this muffler instead of the 60 Series which is designed to bring the Flowmaster sound quality to 4 cylinder engine cars.

The guy who did th work only had that type. I still might put 60 series on the car. I will buy those from ebay if possible. it doesnt sound to bad but I believe it could br better.

I did the 60 series on mine and cut the resonator off as well. it was WAY to loud. I put the resonator back in. Total cost was 100 bucks us.

Did you have this done at a local shop and is that price including reattaching your resonator? How does the sound with the new muffler compare with and without the resonator? I was going to have the res cut out, but now I might keep it. I don't want to wake up all the neighbors at 5am.

I paid $140.40 with tax. Not to bad, another place in town would have put me near $200. I think I am going to replace the 40 with 60. The 40 has a hollow sound to it with a slight rasp.

wait how loud is loud?? like it is annoying or jsut during acceleration?i used to use my resonator as my muffler when i had straight pipe in for the muffler. Is it louder then using just the resonator is basically what i am asking.

If you use the two together no if it is just one or the other it will be louder. The resonator also helps change the exhaust note.

no im saying is the flowmaster with no resonator before it louder then using just the resonator as the muffler.

and how does the resonator change the exhaust note? (Not mechanically, but in sound terms)

w/o it its not as deep. i dont like it, it does what it says "resonates"

without the resonator it was rather "buzzy" and louder. With it it is a hollow sound that dissapears at 3000-4000rpm. Perfect at highway speeds.

actually, I watched the guy cut the old one off, and just weld the new one on, even used the tip from the stock one. I'll take pictures tommorow from under the car..

The guy did the same for me. They can also spread the diameter of the pipe enough to make the two pipes fit.

Wow! Those inlets/outlets are HUGE! Looks like something we'd have on our Mack trucks at work! I know the 50 series is designed for the big blocks as well. One of the two is supposed to be just ridiculouly loud, though.BTW--I thought that the GT's exhaust was 2 1/4?

Is this a single exhaust? If I get an exhaust I want to get a dual exhaust. Does anyone make a dual exhaust?

How much would a custom job run me? Is there a brand I should stick to? Dont know much about exhausts but I want something that dosent sound like a pissed off weed eater I just want it to have a deep roar but not a loud one to be quiet until you step on the gas. Damn I sound lost!!!

There are a number of tips and mufflers that have twin pipes close together, but you could use something like a Flowmaster for a Camaro, with a single inlet and dual outlets to get true left/right duals. I built my own by tapping in upstream of the stock muffler, per following pic. Most of the sound comes out the right side, but it is a dual set up!

Here's a kinda dark shot that shows how it looks. (I saved the cut out piece from the fascia, JIC I ever want to go back to stock)

ROFL!Even when I had the small block with 'only' 3" exhausts (and 11.8:1 CR), there was a bit of a sound "issue". My buddy's Mom said she always knew when I was coming, because her kitchen windows would start rattling when I was still two blocks away....

Unless you're standing right at the bumper, it's hard to tell that one pipe is louder. Also, in cold weather there's still enough flow through the muffler that clouds of condensation come from both.
