Kayak Transport

FYI, I used my Kayak carrier for the first time yesterday. I bought the Thule "Hull-A-Port" months ago when REI had a sale, but this was the first time I used it. Thule doesn't officially say that this will work with the vibe, but it worked like a charm. I only have one Kayak on the roof, but as you can see from the pictures, there is plenty of room to move 2 at the same time. I used the carrier on top of the GM roof accessory bars, but I think it may work on top of the stock bars as well. The GM bars don't seem to really add much stability over stock.

Wow, that looks awesome! Nice job. How is the stability on the road with that? Any problems with wind, etc.?

Stability was surprisingly good. However, I only drive it 2 miles, without highway, to transport it between my old apartment and my new house, so I don't have too much experience to talk about. The Thule documentation says you need to strap the ends of the boat to the car as well, but the stability seemed fine without it, so I didn't bother for the short trip.

Don't know about the weight limits on the Yak, but it is a Loon 111 from Old Town. I've been pretty happy with it, but I do have boat envy

. I got the 111, because it has the compartment behind the seat for my dog. If I was in the market again, I'd probably go for one of the Blackwater boats. I don't remember the manufactuer, but they're a lot more suiting for taking in moving water.

Here's my all time favorite Kayak picture. Notice the siluette of the dog as well.
