Christmas Spirit, or lack there-of

Well, it's that time of the year again. My wife is already close to completing christmas shopping, and I'm probly not gonna make it back home for christmas. I have lots of time to think about this time of season and I've recently realized one crucial thing.I hate Christmas. It's not that I don't get into the spirit of giving, nor do I mind helping out others in the least. My dislike for this holiday stems from twisted values and the materialistic society we all live in.My family always put too much stock in getting useless crap for others when we could barely hold our heads above water. I hate going to stores and seeing herds of people corralling themselves about like cattle, only to start yelling at the cashier when they get to checkout because the price is 25 cents over the marked price. Not to mention the real, but rare, fights over the last gift on the shelf. People treat each other so bad, trying to make those in their family feel good that it seems the spirit of christmas is hypocritical.4 years ago when I was in Meijer (A Super-Wallmart like store), I watched a woman pushing a kart down an isle knock a small boy down as he ran out in front of her. He started crying, and instead of helping the boy up or apoligizing, she started cursing the child for getting in the way. When the boy's mother came, she began getting yelled at as well. So I got pissed. I walked up, knocked over the *****es kart, and told her to ****-off and pick up all her precious crap. Great, now I had just helped ruin everyones day as well.Long story short, be nice this season. How you treat someone else can affect another person down the line. So be polite so someone else doesn't have to become a jerk to deal with you. It ruins everyones day. I wish you all a happy and fun holiday season. Enjoy yourselves, and don't spare the beer.

Do I what I do - shop online and avoid the rest of the morons out there. Because as much as I love Christmas, I realize that it brings out the worst in people which you can view daily in the local malls.

bah motherf*ckin' humbug! i don't know if it is because ive grown up or what, but christmas just doesn't seem the same. i don't get why people grow broke trying to impress their family with gifts. i would rather be on the receiving end of a kind deed or gesture than get a material gift. this christmas, i want my family to detail my car...

GOVERNMENT CUTBACKS HIT THE NORTH POLE Santa Trims the Excess FatNORTH POLE - November 26, 2003-- The usual large, flamboyant typefaceassociated with "Seasons Greetings" has been downsized this yearcommensurate with the trend toward corporate downsizing. The recent announcement that Donner and Blitzen have elected to take theearly reindeer retirement package has triggered a good deal of concernabout whether they will be replaced and about other restructuringdecisions at the North Pole.Streamlining was appropriate in view of the reality that the North Poleno longer dominates the season's gift distribution business. The dramatic ncrease in on-line shopping has diminished Santa'smarket share, and he could not sit idly by and permit further erosion ofthe profit picture. The reindeer downsizing was made possible through the purchase of a latemodel Japanese sled for the CEO's annual trip. Improved productivityfrom Dasher and Dancer, who summered at the Harvard Business School, isanticipated and should take up the slack with no discernible loss ofservice. Reduction in reindeer will also lessen airborne environmentalemissions for which the North Pole has been cited and receivedunfavorable press.According to an unnamed source, Rudolph's role will not be disturbed.Tradition still counts for something at the North Pole. Managementdenies, in the strongest possible language, the earlier leak thatRudolph's nose got that way not from the cold, but from substance abuse.Calling Rudolph "a lush who was into the sauce and never did pull hisshare of the load" was an unfortunate comment, made by one of Santa'shelpers and taken out of context at a time of year when he is known tobe under executive stress. As a further restructuring, today's global challenges require the NorthPole to continue to look for better, more competitive steps. Effectiveimmediately, the following economy measures are to take place in the"Twelve Days of Christmas" subsidiary:The partridge will be retained, but the pear tree never turned out to bethe cash crop forecasted. It will be replaced by a plastic hangingplant, providing considerable savings in maintenance. The two turtle doves represent a redundancy that is simply not costeffective. In addition, their romance during working hours could not becondoned. The positions are therefore eliminated. The three French hens have been replaced by the currently trendy three Patriot hens. The four calling birds were replaced by an automated voice mail system, with a call waiting option. An analysis is underway to determine whothe birds have been calling, how often and how long they talked. The five golden rings have been put on hold by the Board of Directors.Maintaining a portfolio based on one commodity could have negativeimplications for institutional investors. Diversification into otherprecious metals as well as a mix of T-Bills and high technology stocksappear to be in order. The six geese-a-laying constitutes a luxury which can no longer beafforded. It has long been felt that the production rate of one egg pergoose per day is an example of the decline in productivity. Three geesewill be let go, and an upgrading in the selection procedure by personnelwill assure management that from now on every goose it gets will be agood one.The seven swans-a-swimming is obviously a number chosen in better times. The function is primarily decorative. Mechanical swans are on order. Thecurrent swans will be retrained to learn some new strokes and thereforeenhance their outplacement. As you know, the eight maids-a-milking concept has been under heavyscrutiny by the EEOC. A male/female balance in the workforce is beingsought. The more militant maids consider this a dead-end job with noupward mobility. Automation of the process may permit the maids to trya-mending, a-mentoring or a-mulching.Nine ladies dancing has always been an odd number. This function willbe phased out as these individuals grow older and can no longer do thesteps.Ten Lords-a-leaping is overkill. The high cost of Lords plus theexpense of international air travel prompted the Compensation Committeeto suggest replacing this group with ten out-of-work congressmen. Whileleaping ability may be somewhat sacrificed, the savings are significantbecause we expect an oversupply of unemployed congressmen this year.Eleven pipers piping and twelve drummers drumming is a simple case ofthe band getting too big. A substitution with a string quartet, acutback on new music and no uniforms will produce savings which willdrop right down to the bottom line.We can expect a substantial reduction in assorted people, fowl, animalsand other expenses. Though incomplete, studies indicate that stretchingdeliveries over twelve days is inefficient. If we can drop ship in oneday, service levels will be improved.Regarding the lawsuit filed by the attorney's association seekingexpansion to include the legal profession ("thirteen lawyers-a-suing")action is pending.

Bobby Gaylor has another song out there called "Suicide" it's pretty good.On a side note, I love the Xmas time of year. I will say as a devout non-theist, I believe that this holiday is best spent celebrating the spirit of being with the people you love and being kind to eachother. (Forget about the whole birth of christ stuff, jesus was actually born in the springtime, but that's just one of my qualms with the Christian version of the holiday )Of course, presents rock, but I would honestly be happy if all I got was to spend the day with everyone that I loved. That being said, bring on the beer, presents, and family

I first heard Bobby Gaylor on Bob and Tom Radio, they should start playing his song "stop giving me crap for x-mas" soon.Suicide is a great song, listening to the words there is a lot of truth there. "you'll never know what shape the next marshmallow in lucky charms will be"

I am not a big fan of Christmas either, and it doesn't help that I am not religious. That is why I like Thanksgiving, it is impossible to commercialize it. Food, family, and football. No shopping, no lights, no stupid decorations. It is the best holiday EVER.
