Here is a pic of a 51' 6" saguaro cactus (a few inces short of the record) it is located 10 miles from home, near an old gold mine. We went out and got an official survey to get the exact height. Sure makes you feel small when your under neath it. Sorry about the size of the picture... i don't have much keyboard time and don't know how to work these confounded things.

Cactus update...I regret to inform the prickly plant loving people that the 51 foot + cactus is now deceased. It is however providing a home for many cactus disassembly insects that will be kept very busy for some time to come.Sorry no pics of the corpes, I didn't bring the camera that day.

It was actually 11 years ago that we first saw it while panning for placer gold. The wash that it is next to is downstream of a once very productive mine. It took awhile to notice since we were always looking down.First a small rotting hole appeared about 6' up from the ground, then a hive of bees moved in and it only took another year for it to break/tip over in high winds. Here is a pic of one of the many abandoned gold/silver mines in the area. You can see the ore cart tracks coming up out of the mine at a very steep angle, the shed on the left has a big winch that raises/lowers the carts.
