Here are the specs....Toyota Corolla XRSToyota unveiled this new Corolla XRS, to be powered by a 1.8-liter four-cylinder DOHC engine producing 170 horsepower and 127 pound-feet of torque. The engine will deliver better midrange torque than versions of the 2ZZ engine found in Celica GTS and Matrix XRS models. It will retain the VVTL-i variable valve timing and lift system that switches cam profiles at 6000 rpm, as well as the high 7800-rpm redline. The XRS is expected to clock sub-eight-second 0-to-60 runs and yet still provide good fuel economy. Toyota estimates 25 mpg city and 32 mpg highway. Under the XRS is a sport-tuned suspension with a front connecting-rod damper, increased-rate coil springs and shocks, and a half-inch-lower ride height. Sixteen-inch aluminum alloy wheels and Michelin performance tires are standard. Steering is upgraded by a more rigid steering column and a power steering rack specially developed for the XRS. Inside, the Corolla XRS boasts sport seats, a color-keyed bezel surrounding the grille, silver-colored center cluster and switch plates, a leather-like shift boot with a leather shift knob, and unique badging. I wonder how they will produce better mid-range torque than the other 2zz engines considering that it has lower torque, hp, and same switch over.

The damper is mounted between the shock towers to produce improved ride and handling without compromising NVH. In addition to the performance damper, the XRS features increased rate coil springs and shocks on all four wheels for improved roll and pitch, and a ride height that lowers it by a full half-inch. The suspension stands on larger 16-inch aluminum alloy wheels and Michelin performance tires an upgrade from the standard 15-inch wheels on all other Corolla grades. It is complemented by a steering system that features a more rigid steering column, producing less vibration and improved response. And, a power steering rack specially developed for the XRS allows for better steering feedback. The improved performance of the Corolla XRS is accompanied by performance-themed convenience enhancements including sport seats, color-keyed bezel surrounding the grille, silver-colored center cluster and switch plates, a leather-like shift boot with a leather shift knob, and unique badging.The Corolla XRS will be built at Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Canada (TMMC) in Cambridge, Ontario alongside the Matrix. I almost purchased the Corolla over the Vibe.....Corollas' are great little cars with lots of potential.This car is sweet

I love the '86 Toyota Corolla levin...those cars are monster drifters...I've allways wanted one

ya, i saw some pics of someone's on MO.com at one of the meets.... if it were available last year, i'd be driving that!

They get the extra torque after a unichip type retune of fuel and advance after seeing what Lotus did with the ECU. They decided the fuel effeciency comprimises were out of character for this motor. The MPG will drop a bit. Still down on HP due to emissions. I saw one at the Chicago auto show. Nice car. It looked to have a cosmetic nonfuntional STB. I can't remember exactly but I think it had rubber somewhere inline and you could move it with arm pressure. I hope that was only for the show. I found a pic.

we got one of these at the dealer 2 weeks ago, all 3 techs took this out and drove it. i myself thought the torque felt better than my xrs, but the lift was WEAK felt like it came in at 7000 rpms instead. and i must be use to mine with the trd cai, barley hear lift kick in, i swear before i installed the cai i could hear lift come in, more so than the corolla xrs. but over all nice car.

Lift doesn't hit as hard either because it's pulling harder just before lift. Can you look at the corolla up close. Whats up with the tower brace. When I first saw it, I thought it might be a torque brace because of the dampers but it's only attached betwen the strut towers.

That must be the "front connecting rod damper" developed by Yamaha. If that is what it is, I'd rather have a true STB.
