It's supposed to protect from roll-overs when driving over boulders and on 50 degree inclines. The eco-cage on that armada is pretty useless though. the weight of vehicle to size of cage ratio is way off on that one. ITs most likely just for show. (same goes for that exposed winch on the Xterra and Armada)

that CAI would not do well in places like Seattle or Portland (rain). Still, it's kinda cool!
