I put the baby seat (with the latch system) behind the passenger seat. The back of the passenger seat is plastic...so that makes it easy to clean when my 3 year old gets his shoes on it. This is my first car with the latch system and it is really easy to use.

Being a Child Infant Restraint Technician....(fancy way of saying I have completed a 5 day course on the proper way and type of restraints to use).... I would have to suggest the best practices would say to mount it in the centre of the rear seat.... it provides the best protection..... not sure if the latch system is installed on the middle section. you would have to refer to the owners manual.Any other question or concerns about child seat you should check out the nhtsa web site
http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/people/injury/childps/ ... all sorts of information recalls etc.

Not sure if I am going to add anything to this....I have all three seats in back taken up with "child seats", so I've got 'em everywhere.
