Without turning this into a plug for amsoil or starting an amsoil vs valvoline war, what do you oil salesmen think about using "Valvoline maxlife" before a car gets to 75,000 miles? To me it just looks like there's extra "anti-wear additives, seal conditioners, extra cleaning agents and friction modifiers" and the valvoline website says that using them early can prevent wear on a newer engine. But it also warns not to switch back and forth between maxlife and normal oils, any recommendations?http://www.valvoline.com/carcare/articl ... 20030901v2 http://www.valvoline.com/pages/rebates/ ... rebateid=9(I figured the thread topic "Free Oil" would probably be a little over the top - they have the stuff at Walmart and Meijer here in Michigan)

I used Valvoline in my 98 Venture. For the first 100k, I used Durablend. I could find it for $2 qt, so oil change would cost less than $15. I switched to Maxlife around 100k. I had purchased a used Taurus and decided that I did not want buy many different oils. I now have 140k on the Venture. It does not use much oil (less than a qt every 3500 miles). I have not done any other engine work. I will continue to use Maxlife until the end of this vehicle. As for using it on new engines, I have switched to Mobil1. I would not use Maxlife on new vehicle, and that is my uneducated, simple decision.
