Just the Jeopardy theme? I could play every symphony by Mozart on a kazoo and still be waiting. Nick, I tried sending you a PM ... it either went through 6 times or not at all. I'll try again later.

Yeah, when sending IM's it seems to send about 20 duplicate messages all at once - apparently the forum is up but problems are still around.

While I don't have an official update, I can say that some of the forum features have been temporarily disabled (Search) to minimize database activity while they troubleshoot the issues.I'll be sure to update everyone once I receive more detailed info - thanks for holding on out there! Considering our excellent uptime track record, issues like this happen everywhere and I consider us lucky that it does not occur as frequently as other larger sites.

MatrixOwners.com and MatrixVibe.net have had some server issues, but this is the first stumble I've encountered with Genvibe. (well....except Geo's avatar. )

I've missed genvibe when it's down, which has been almost never until this week.Mike/Nick, I bet you've been working on it hard this week to get it restored, and these days security upgrades are unfortunately necessary. Thanks for all the effort you put into it, ¿ ° ¤ ¾ ÷ ¼ = 3

Hi all,Yes, the search engine has been temporarily deactivated while we work out some details.Another site we have run in the past that used this same bulletin board software (Zeroforum) was quite a bit larger than GVC. That site, we had to turn of the search almost in the very beginning do to performance issues. GVC apparently has now grown to that size as well! (Congratulations to all of us!) We are working to get things up and running smoothly again and also working with Zeroforum to try and get an upgrade that has a more efficient search.Mike K.

Thanks for the kind words - I feel that GenVibe has by far met my expectations as far as reliability. Also, as stated, with the current security upgrades necessary anymore, things are bound to mess up sometime. As far as an update, I don't have one - still waiting for word from the server admins. I (and I assume they) am aware of features and problems that still exist (Search, slow, IM....) - as I said, it will be worked out.My e-mail always works-
nick@genvibe.com - feel free to e-mail me at any time if the forum goes down (or whenever) and you have any questions. This is pretty much out of my control and I can only relay info to the right people. We'll be back eventually. EDIT: Mike beat me to it. Thanks, Mike, for the update!!

quote:All these security upgrades make me wonder if someone hacked the site. Never know. It wasn't. No loss of data occurred and the downtime was caused by a specific event on the servers. I believe everyone is patient and knows downtime happens and we'll be back to normal with a forum upgrade in addition.

quote:Will we have the option to sign in without people knowing we are signed in?Kinda like a hidden feature? The upgrade is nothing major - mostly includes upgrades in administration, customization, and performance. There will be very little visual adjustments compared to the version we are currently running. You can see a demo of the latest version from Zeroforum here:
http://demo.zeroforum.comAs far as new or changed features, those will be addressed once the upgrade has been completed.

Everyone,I want to apologize for the poor uptime we've been having over the last week. Several different things happened at once (three different servers quit, a database got corrupted, our ZF version is too old to work with some security fixes we installed, etc.) We're working on getting things back as before. Search will probably be disabled until we can get a new version of the ZF software. (We've been in contact with ZF already to get that ball rolling.) Further details as events warrant...Mike K.

It makes you appreciate what you have when you don't have it. (or something like that)Has anybody been able to upload a file? I get an error - something about MIME from my browser.

Looked at member list, did a descending search for "Users" based on signup date, to show the most recently signed up members. Not one of the 18 most recently signed up members have posted. 18 in a row, all since the downtime. Nobody who has joined in the last two weeks has posted anything. Seems like a long streak. I understand that they may have just not decided to post anything yet, and a number of members never post anything ever. Maybe one of them can post to say Hi so we know that new members can post.

I'm currently testing this out - if it's the case that users aren't getting their password via e-mail, we can change the registration options and I'll personally contact each new member in the time frame to enable them to login.

The problem with the e-mail was resolved shortly after reporting the problem to the server admins - that issue is resolved. We're currently waiting for a database upgrade to be completed before ZeroForum can come in and upload the forum software for us. This will be done as soon as possible.

Seems to be some search problems today. for example, searching for topics that have the word "forum" or "problems" in the title doesn't give this thread as a result. It seems to be behaving as if none of the threads updated in the last 24-48 or so hours are returned by a keyword search. I don't remember it behaving this way in the past. search for * still gives all threads including the most recent and searching by creator still seems to work right, just searching for a keyword is not catching the newest threads
