oh yeah...anyone know is that really a true story? they say it is, but people also said that the blair witch project was real too, and that turned out not to be. maybe ill have to go rent the orginal TCM now.

I did a little searching on Google and came up with this:
http://www.texaschainsawmassacre.net/ In the FAQ it aswers that very question. The story is based on the exploits of Ed Gein. The remote locatoin. The unique menu. But in the end, very little of the movie is based in reality.

ed gein was out of wisconsin. it could have been loosely based on him, real loose.

You know this movie is a remake. There was an earlier make of this movie that came out hmmm....sometime in the late 70's if I remember correctly. It was the only movie I can remember to actually scare me. I am anxious to see this new version. Yes....it is based on actual events in the past, however I am sure the movie is MUCH more inflated past what really happened.Jim

I grew up around the New (Or it is Next?) Generation TCM..The one with Renee Zellwinger. Loved it though and went to see the new one last night. Very Good. I love horror flicks.

quote:In 1974, the classic thriller by Tobe Hooper, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, has many Geinian touches, although there is no character that is an exact Eddie Gein model. This movie helped put "Ghastly Gein" back in the spotlight in the mid-1970's.

1974 was the origninal, there was a cheesy remake in the 90s that sucked (removed) and wasn't even the same

I read a book about him and they say he used to give "venison" sausage to freinds up there. I had freind that stayed up in that area every year during hunting season.
