I am thinking about some subs for the back area. I have a friend who says kicker makes these 12" L7 solarbaric that rock, i need two and they are square. I also will need to know about the ohlm situation right? They list these things with dual ohlms, like 2,4, and 6 ohlms, which do i need? I also will need a amp or two right? which size will be the best for two of the L7's, and which cross over will work for me? Does anybody have a source for these speakers, i need some expert advice here, i don't want to spend money on the wrong stuff.

Alright, they come in two varieties. 2 Ohm DVC (Dual Voice Coil), or 4 Ohm DVC. Which (as far as I know), means you need a 2 Channel amp that'll support 2x2 or 4 Ohm. Now.. These present many issues as there are two coils, which means that each speaker needs two channels of amp, or you can wire it together and do it in mono. IE, a 2 Ohm DVC would parallel to 1 Ohm, or Serial to 4 Ohm. It all depends on how you want to wire it.quote: I also will need a amp or two right? which size will be the best for two of the L7's, and which cross over will work for me? Does anybody have a source for these speakers, i need some expert advice here, i don't want to spend money on the wrong stuff. Alright...Overall, you should only want one of these things. Unless you want to upgrade A LOT. These subs need 750 Watts RMS, and that's a pretty darn big amp. If you want to run two of these, that's around 1600 Watts RMS...which means you'd need to get a bigger alternator, better battery, and the wires and Capacitors to power it all! Granted, I like the idea. Heh.If you have the money to do it all, then that's great. These things will take up a lot of room though, so make sure you're willing to give up the space. If you want to go through more details, i'll be happy to help. Either in this thread, or in PM.Though, i'm sure there are other members that'll probably be better at it.. I'd like to try..I know a thing or two, but i'm always too broke to go all the way..

First, let me sat thank you guys for the advice! The reason i wanted two, was to have some bump, ya no I have 4 sony explodes in the doors and a kenwood head unit, i was also thinking maybe a 4 channel amp for those, right? Right now i have 2 6 disc changers in the spare tire area, and i wanted to add a little power and some bass. I am just looking for the real stats on the ohlms and the amp i might want, so when i go to purchas i don't get my chain pulled by some young dood sellig me junk.I think my new aproach will be: 1 10" solar, one amp of which i'm not sure(help). Maybe different door speakers(are the sonys OK?), and a amp for them(help)

Maybe different door speakers(are the sonys OK?), and a amp for them(help) I'd say get some sort of Class D amp, preferably self-cooled. Like the Lightning Audio series with the cooling turbine (B2.350.1 baby!). As for the door speakers, if you're satisfied, why change them? I have a pair of Polk Ex350s in my doors (components), and I love 'em.. Beyond that, really the only other thing people reccomend are the Polk MOMO series. I also have a pair of $40 pioneers in the back..but that's only because I couldn't spend the money on another pair of polks.. I might get components in the back, and put the tweeters in the C Columns.. Anyway...yeah, a seperate amp for the door speakers usually helps. I have a Sony 4 channel from my old Ford Probe that handled pretty well. Though right now I have a JL 300/4 powering my door speakers, and that's pretty mean!

That is quite a significant change from 2 12 solo's to 1 10.If you want more bass I would suggest 2 12's maybe not the solo barics though. To run a powerfull amp it is not nessessary to get the upgraded alternator and battery that was stated earlier. All you need is a farad capacitor which is like a hundred bucks.I have two 12s in my Vibe and it sounds sweet. I have the no bass running through the door speakers making everything extremly clear.I would suggest 2 Alpine Tye R subs they have great prices at this site.

well, i can tell that when i got my sub installed, i originally wanted a 12" but after listening to several subs in the back, i was surprised how the 8" solobaric did. it sounded far better than the 12" sub, more crisp and clear.i also changed out my 4 door speakers and replaced them with pioneers in the front and sony xplodes in the back. i ran a 5 channel amp, planet audio 700 watts at 2 ohms, for all 4 speakers and the sub. if you want base, then a 10" solobaric in a ported box will be just the right fix! i'd take a look at ebay for the amps. i went to the local car audio store and they wanted $550 just for the same amp i got new on ebay for $200. the only downside to the 5 channel amp is that it's big as you can see in my pic earlier.

I guess it all really depends on how much bass you want- A buddy of mine has 2 solo 15s in a 300zx - or a friend with an expedition and 12 kicker vr 12s- SO I guess it all depends on how much bass ya want

I prefer 10"s... I have two Sony P5s in a bandpass in the trunk.. I find the 12"s are just for thump...not precise at all.. the 10"s are pretty good, especially with the 6.5"s in the doors...It all depends on how much money you wanna spend!

Thanks for the help. I think i will stay with the 4 sonys and get a amp for them and a mono 1 chanel amp for the bass. It looks like the 10" solar baric with the box is the way to go.The head unit i have has the rca outputs, so i should be alright.Any idea where the best place to shop might be?

OK, i have checked out the situation here! 10" solar in the kicker box for like $329kx 600.1 2 ohms (should be enough?) $369It says the 10" runs like 900 watts, right? will that little kx power that one speaker? A dood at the store said it was like $1 a watt for real power, so i need a $600-$900 amp, right?I am not going to shows, i just want to spend my money wisely on a fairly good setup.

I agree with Russ... The 350 watt amp in my trunk cost me $152 at discountave.net

I disagree- I think people have a misconception about car audio equipment- Amps make a huge huge difference- a lot of people buy really good subwoofers or speakers then they buy a cheap amp. The problem is the quality of your amp plays a HUGE role in the quality of sound you will get out of your speakers. Amps that claim 1000 watts and cost $200 have a lesser sound quality and normally the claims are way off. I used to work at a car audio store and from my experience amps can make the difference between your system sounding good and clear and just being loud.

One of the most expensive "great" car audio companies ever.. Ew.You can get good amplifiers for cheap. Granted, I don't think anyone would believe 1000 watts for $200. But, unless you're showing it, a vaguely cheap amp can do well. You just need to keep an eye on who's manufacturing it. Everyone has their opinion, and knows how much money they have!

I agree that you can get good amps for less then $1 per watt- I would suggest Memphis Audio- I have a memphis amp and a friend of mine has a memphis amp and I think they are great. But some companies out there- Have horrible amps that claim huge power and sound horribleand I would never own anything Rockford- there name sells there products not there quality

Ditto. I have a Memphis 202 powering a 12" MTK and it sounds great, plenty of thump for my XRS. I paid $160 for the amp, which is 200W. All told, I spent a total of $430 for my amp, the sub, box and installation. It was well worth it.
