what exactly is Itunes? i have it on my computer and it pops up when i play a cd. i know that it somehow knows the name of the cd i'm playing along w/every track on the cd! even pink floyd stuff!

Are you using OS X or OS 9? iTunes is an audio player program...it also will rip CDs and synch to iPods, plus the iTunes music store provides a legal way of purchasing digital music online, at 99 cents a track. It requires iTunes 4 though, which is OS X only.

i have 9. there are already a bunch of songs on it. i got it from my boss, it was his computer at home for viewing works in progress

You should upgrade to X...it's awesome.

its not my choice, it's a work computer. i am satisfied with what i got. it's faster than any windows computer i've ever seen

So is mine...faster than any Windows PC I've ever used, that is. I love it. X.3 Panther is going to be awesome, too. X is very different from 9, but different in a good way, IMHO. The music store rocks too...I can buy music legally online and burn it to CD however many times I want, or put it on my iPod, or up to 3 other computers. There are a lot of people who are stickin it out in OS 9 though.

Just think, you could have a lot more iOrgasms if you had a Mac...LOL They're all simple yet powerful programs that have all the useful features you need in one easy to use package. So nice.

Ripping is taking the contents from an audio CD and converting them to an digital audio file (wma, Mp3, AAC)

almost the opposite of burning...

So, in a nutshell:With this program, a person could:1) Take their current CDs, convert to MP3, and put them onto their computer or the iPod2) Take downloaded MP3 files, convert to WAV(?) and put them onto a CD for play in any normal CD player.Am I at least close?

no 1. YES..no. 2 There is no need to convert to WAV... you can take MP3 files and "burn it" directly to a CD for use in a standard cd player.

I wouldn't say so.... I am sure LPs degrade in sound quality over time so you would never get a perfect copy that you would from a CD

Not that a CD is a "perfect copy" of a record, by any means...As long as you keep your records clean and keep them in the right conditions (temp/humidity), they'll outshine your CDs for some time to come...As for iTunes for windows... it's pretty cool. Even just the internet radio stuff is great. I've been listening to some Electronica stuff with no hiccups.. (a great substitute for my XM when it isn't nearby!) Just wish I could afford a Mac.. X.X I'm getting so tired of my PC issues...

The iBook and eMac aren't expensive at all...nor was the original iMac, though it's now been discontinued. You could buy a used Mac, also. They don't depreciate as much in price as PCs, but they're all still good, working systems.

I've often considered moving to a Mac for my home machine, but I use a PC at work and I am afraid of problems when I try to work from home.

What programs do you use at work? If it's Office, then it's no problem...the two are fully compatible. OS X is also fully compatible with PC formatted disks, even though PCs won't read Mac disks. OS X is very compliant toward Windows files, it gets along nicely. There are also other programs that will cross over, though Office is the only one I personally use. Mac OS X gets along great with Windows though, even though Windows doesn't quite get along good with Mac OS. There is also Connectix Virtual PC, if you absolutely have to run a Windows-only program...it's a Windows emulator, and you can run pretty much any Windows prog you want on your Mac with it.

i have os9 and i transfer files from windows to mac all the time. every file transfers without problem. as long as you have the software equivalent on both platforms, you should be fine.

My main concern would surface around using Citrix to connect to our Accounting Software. I also sync a Palm IIIc with my home computer.

Palm is no problem, but I don't have experience w/ Citrix. I'd think it would at least run in VPC though.

I have run Windows 98 faster on a 486. I hear the speed is improved if running Windows 2000, but I have not tried it yet. Also keep in mind that the lower-end Macs will not run VPC well by any stretch of the imagination. Emulation is a very resource intensive process.

I haven't read any comments about the sound quality with the FM adapter in the Vibe. Any comments from users on how it compares to CD's?

I took my portable FM transmitter back to Circuit City, because it only really worked when I was touching either it or the iPod, which is sort of dangerous while driving. The one that actually goes into the back of the radio would be better, but will also cost me $80, so it'll have to wait for now.

I'm using one I purchased from Target and the little thing has enough power to broadcast from one floor of my house to the other. It works quite well in the car. Sound quality isn't the best possible and it uses two AAA batteries for power, but at $20 I couldn't pass it up. I was able to improve the sound quality a bit by shutting the EQ off and turning the volume to 3/4.Here's a link to the transmitter at ThinkGeek.com. I recommend buying it at Target though. That's exactly what I had...it was just branded as an iRock. I think part of my problem is that there are stations on 2 of the 4 frequencies.Say, now that people have had time to get used to iTunes....how many people are considering switching? Anyone?

Doesn't Apple make a FM transmitter as well? Anyone have any experience with it?I downloaded iTunes, but am still using Windows Media Player (PC). If I get an iPod, however, I plan to switch over. My decision to get an iPod is resting on audio quality in a car.

Apple doesn't make it but Belkin makes the official transmitter called Itrip..

The iTrip is made by Griffin Technologies. Belkin also makes an FM Transmitter, though, that is sold along with the iTrip at apple.com/store.

OK Yeah.. Kari is right...to answer your question I have though about getting a mac but I find Mac PC are way too expensive... I tend to purchase moderate high end computers 14-18 hundred but to get a mac with the specs I want would cost 25-30... Way too much for me I am thrilled with my Ipod though and happy that it is 100% usable with windows

You don't need to buy as much processor with the Mac as you would with the PC. They're typically about twice as fast as their mhz say. My 800 mhz G4 iBook is awesome, and it was $999.

I've considered Mac several times, but honestly, I'd never buy one, cause I just need two mouse buttons!!!

Can fix that too. I have a 6-button Kensington mouse hooked up to mine. Time for a new excuse...

Sad part is I only use 3 of them. I only bought it beacuse it was the cheapest Kensington at Circuit City and my other mouse died.
