A sunroof is when the back end of it pops up, doesnt open up fully.A moonroof is when the thing slides back and you're fully exposed to the air....Make sense?

here's what i was always told:sunroof you let the sun in, only opens partially.moonroof you can look at the moon, so opens all the way.

My Sunfire's back pops up, and it slides out popped up too. What about the Vibe?

Actually, I believe you are all incorrect."Sunroof" is the term originally used to describe a metal panel that would only allow light or air in when opened. +Obviously, these no longer exist."Moonroof" is a term created by Ford in the 70s, yet is now used generically to describe glass panel inbuilt electric sunroofs. In recent years, the terms have come to be used interchangeably.

I would like to add to Fish that in the 80's Sunroofs were mainly a piece of glass. The moonroofs were a piece of the roof the reclined into the roof and some exposed glass or just open air. Mercedes is the typical choice.

Pontiac markets Vibes with the optional Moon & Tunes package, which includes a "moonroof" for the moon part. The Pontiac service manual for the Vibe exclusively refers to it as a "Sunroof"So, the difference between a moonroof and a sunroof is whether you are trying to sell one or fix one.

Her's the difference-------- Sunroof--when it is daylight, Moonroof---when it is night. Just depends on the time, to call by either name.

I also have heard the following:sunroof - all one piece. metal on the outside and fabric (or whatever rest of interior ceiling is) inside. you have to open it to let light in. Good to use for letting in sunlight but might get too cold to let moonlight in. moonroof - has the external glass and internal sliding piece. you can slide the internal cover and let light in without opening the glass portion. i.e. you can let moonlight in without getting too cold. But, I also agree that now days, the terms are used interchangebly.
