You'll learn really quick how to drive a stick-shift if you bought it. What a blast they are. I don't think I would ever go back to an automatic if I have the choice

It's just got power, not moon and tunes like I wanted. The Nav system though, Do I have to subscribe to that? Like XM? I really want this Vibe I really don't know how to drive a stick though. I told them I would come look at it Saturday and I have a feeling Friday someone else will buy it!!

Trust me. You can learn to drive a stick! I'd love to have found an Envy monotone GT. Hope everything works out for you getting it!

Why does the Monotone Envy look lighter than the Two-Toned Envy's?

In this case, the photos are just a little washed out. However, in person it also appears to be a little lighter. I think it's just an optical illusion caused by the lack of the cladding.

No subscriptions with the navigation system. Operates using a DVD in the system. While it's free to use, the info gets outdated, and I think it's around $200 to purchase the most current DVD.

Tell me about it, It's so frustrating. I'm keeping my fingers tightly crossed for this one. Can a CD player be in a Vibe that has the Nav. System?

Well, This is a used one so no GM certificate or any rebates, And Im not sure if I can pull the no payment until Jan. thing. I am not at all good at stick shifts, I have driven one once before, and I had a hell of a time with reverse. Im a little scared as Im not in a condition to even test drive. I'm waiting to here from them about it so me and my dad can go down and take a look if it stays there!Anyone got any tips with the Gt's?

you kinda have to let the clutch out soft when you shift into first. reverse is all the way to the upper left and not lower right. my friend bought a 5-speed legacy this summer and never drove a stick before as well. she learned on how to drive on it and is very glad she did. she's since driven an auto and didn't like how slow it shifted or not having control over when to shift.you may not be able to do the 90 day no payment thing, but you can do 45 days no payment. it's mid oct, so that will be dec 1 for your first payment.

Looks like a pretty good deal. Average miles, GT so lots of fun, and a rare Envy! I actually saw an Envy Vibe on my trip down to VA Tech this weekend and a total of like 4-5 Vibes. Oh, and I got 35.5 mpg. So, Fuel, hopefully this will work out for you and learning to drive a stick shift can be tricky at first, but you'll get used to it shortly. Good luck!

You can't mix the M&T and a Nav. System can you? If you don't have the tunes does that mean it has a weaker base to it?

M&T has 200W amp.Not sure what stock amp pushes. Pretty sure M&T also gives you the tweeters (or do they come with non M&T systems?), and the moonroof, of course. No, you can't mix Nav with M&T though. But I thought you didn't want M&T?

I would'nt *mind* having it, but I can certainly live without it. I just wanted to know if Im losing any base by not having it.

quote:You can't mix the M&T and a Nav. System can you? If you don't have the tunes does that mean it has a weaker base to it?As Ragingfish said, you can't mix the two. I don't have the M&T in mine, and I think it sounds fine. There's quite a bit of bass, but it does tend to distort at higher volumes. My only complaint is a lack of high-end. The navigation package and moon and tunes add two tweeters to the mix that the base audio package does not have. That should resolve the problem somewhat. Basically, I think you'd be happy with the Nav system. It has some advantages for certain. I didn't think the moon and tunes package added a lot of bass. To me it just sounded a little cleaner. If you need more bass, you can always add an amp and a subwoofer.

Ok, NSimkins cleared it up for me. With M&T you get a 200W external amp. Without M&T, you get no amp -- speakers are powered by the radio itself.Another upgrade is the addition of the tweeters. Even if you plan to upgrade the stock speakers, I think it's easier to get M&T, then the mounting harware and stuff is all there for the tweeters. You don't have to try and obtain the parts (mount hardware, grilles, etc) afterwards...Personally, unless you travel A LOT...I think you'd be better off with M&T (if you want it) over nav system...IMHO, it's a PITA to reach under the seat to change CDs...which is the sit-e-ation in the Nav system vehicles...

And it's located under the passenger seat someone stated before? You can't use regular fuel with a GT?

Actually Raging, the Nav has the tweeters as well. The only one that doesn't is the base system. The only advantage M&T has over the Nav is the amp (and the in-dash changer if so equipped). I think I have to agree from a use standpoint that M&T is the better package... of course now that I'll be traveling throughout the state for work, I'd like to have the navigation system. That's correct Fuel4soul, only premium fuel in the GT.

Well, the car won't immediately destroy itself (it may cause damage over time though). It just won't perform as well. There are a few threads around that go more in depth if you want the whole rundown. However, it's pretty obvious what you need as soon as you open the fuel door. It says "use premium only" in bold letters.

quote:hmmm What if the owners before did not know this and had been using regular?right. what madbill said. i didn't know i had to use premium in mine for th first couple tanks. then i read in the manual and on the gas cap taht i did. since then, i've put 90+ in mine. then a few weeks ago, i had my folks gas up for me. i forgot to tell them premium only and so they put regular unleaded. i don't think a little lower grade is going to really damage the engine. with only 17k miles on that vibe, you'd probably be ok still.

I also would take Moon and Tunes over the nav system, though you don't particularly have a choice since this is a used Vibe. I ordered mine so I could get exactly what I wanted.Anyway. I like to jam, and I have the bass all the way up, and I play my music loud...have never made it distort yet with the M&T package. I'm absolutely thrilled with my system, actually. The one in my Sonoma really sucked...I haven't heard the base audio system in the Vibe, though.DVD could be sort of cool, but, eh, I like my music better, JMHO.

in previous threads from long long ago (and i'm too lazy to look them up) we discussed the main difference between the base audio system and the M&T. base has 4 speakers. M&T has 6 with an external 200 watt amp. Nav system also has the 6 speakers, but no amp. the speaker themselves are not different, they are exactly the same. personally, i think the stock speakers are crap and replaced mine with walmart specials: Pioneer coaxials in the front doors and Sony Xplode 3-ways in the rear doors. i then took the next step and added a 5 channel amp with an 8" solobaric Kicker sub in a ported box. i have 100 watts per speaker (4 total) and 300 watts to the sub. that whole set up cost me $700 ( $100 for all 4 door speakers, $200 for the amp off ebay, and $400 for sub, box, and install of the amp). had i known how to install the amp, it would have saved me another $200! I could probably do it now, but at the time didn't.just by replacing the factory speakers, you will get a much better sound. or add a bazooka sub to the back and you'll be just fine. i spend a lot of time in my car, so wanted to have my 4.1 surround sound... ahh... to rock out to my newly purchased Rob Zombie CD. ya!

The vibe GT is my 1st stick too. It's not so bad. I picked it up in a few weeks. I was able to drive it in a day or two....just kept stalling. Cluch is picky for first. I know how to start the car up quickly now though. And boy does the GT have pep.....at least compared to my other car (75 Plymouth Valient). That first gear will really get you going. If you like your car to stand out, and be easy to find in the parking lot, definily get the Envy one. It's such an unusual color. Not many of them out there at this point from what I have seen. It looks cool too!Good luck with the decision!

I called them a couple of hours ago. They just traded for it Thursday, so it has'nt been there long, nor I bet it will be either. I told him I would come down Friday to look at it. I forgot about some plans I made Friday so I have to reschedule to Thursday if it's still there. Im still so nervous about a standard - I don't wanna rock the whole thing. I don't think I can even test drive it unless it's got nothing in front of it . I have SO many questions about manual though,..How are they around curves? Do you have to take them slower? How does the cruise control work on a standard? Is it easy to keep up with the speed limit like in an Auto? How do you keep from rolling forward and hitting whatever sits infront of you when letting the brake off and pushing the clutch in to go in reverse? My parents keep telling me I will not like a standard, I keep reminding them I'm 17 and I ask my dad what HE had at 17? -A standard. He has a 69' Chevelle SS 396 now in stick and he's over 40 so I don't see him growing out of it but he also doesn't drive it much cause it's not an everyday driver. I want more control over my car, and more power for passing and such - (I obey the speed limit 99% of the time)Sorry to yack but Im nervous! Thanks..

Ok!First thing is calm down!Don't worry!Everything is going to be just fine!quote: How are they around curves? Do you have to take them slower? How does the cruise control work on a standard? Is it easy to keep up with the speed limit like in an Auto?reverse? Same as an Auto!Only thing is different is the cruise control. When you going on uphill(with the cruise control on) in 6th,and you feel the car is getting slower, rpm is drops, you have to put it in 5th yourself. And set the cruise control again.I know, I know it is way easier with the Auto. But after a wild you getting use to it.quote:How do you keep from rolling forward and hitting whatever sits infront of you when letting the brake off and pushing the clutch in to go in reverse? Now this is the tricky part.I don't know how do you call it in english? In Hungarian it called the emergency brake start.Guys I need some help here to explain that for Him.My english is not the best.Only learning it from 1998.

I'll help you out Mr Rich. To keep from rolling forward, set the parking brake, then slowly release the clutch like normal. When the clutch starts to engage, gradually realease the brake. It's a practice that takes some time to perfect, but it becomes second nature over time. That's the quick stripped-down version, but should give you some idea. I think Mr Rich answered the rest of the questions well. It's really not that much different than an auto. You'll probably stall the thing the first few times (sometimes I still do) but you'll catch on quick. The one thing to keep in mind going around corners in a manual is to downshift. Never to first though. Second's about as low as you ever want to downshift to while the car is in motion.

fuel! you will do just fine! i learned how to drive in a manual, even took my drivers test in a manual. dmv lady thot i was crazy for doing it, but i love having the control and feeling the car shift when i want it to... CONTROL! also, it's a lot of fun, the GT. i'm telling you, my friend bot her first new car, subie legacy, that's manual. never drove one in her life! mastered it in 2 days, no probs. she still stalls is sometime, and whomever is in the car with her when she does, she has to buy them coldstone ice cream. yummy! i think she still owes me one, now that i think about it! relax and you'll do great. auto's are for lazy people! lol. just kidding everyone. manual is more sporty. you will the GT and manual. you'll never want to go back!

My mom had a manual Buick Somerset...she's weighing the idea of getting a Vibe, but doesn't want the 6 speed because, as she put it, it was fun for a while and then she got tired of it. But there are people out tehre who love them too. So give it a try, if nothing else. I"m sure you'll get the hang of it quick

if i had the time to actually search and get exactly the vibe i wanted, i would have got a manual and taken the time to learn it, but i was pleasently supprised with the auto...i felt safer knowing i could get to work on monday after buying the car and not stalling at every light, lol

For me the manual was the only way to go. The auto tranny steals to much power from the car, now if the Vibe came with a more powerful engine the manual would not be needed although it would still be more fun. As far as driving in the snow a manual tranny has its advantages, like being able to start in 2nd gear to avoid to much tire slippage. Tell your dad the stick in the Vibe is alot easier (and softer) than in his Chevelle, I had a 72 SS (402 bbl) with a stick and that clutch (Hayes) sure did make my leg sore!!

I guess it doesn't matter which day I go to look, I think sooner the better as it won't last. My dad keeps telling me he isn't going to go look if it's a manual cause he says I wont like it. My dad's a mechanic and big car buff, but when I look at cars he usually looks at them as if HE would be driving it and not me and it gets frustrating. He really likes Vibes but my recent colors I pick (Fusion, and Envy) he isn't a fan of.

I'm in love! Did I get the Vibe? ... Of course not.But still, I had never seen Envy before and when I did my choice was made. I drove it and started catching on the the whole standard thing,..Every second I was becoming more and more attached. We go in the office of the leecherships and they bid $4k on my car. Won't budge. "Well if you look at a new one, They might bump the bid up a thousand" So I look at some new ones. Never seen so many damn Vibes in my life. They had around 30 of them. Sport packages, after market rims, all sorts of stuff they added on to them. There were about 4 Fusions, and again they only bid 4.5k on it. It was so depressing leaving the Envy Vibe at the leechership cause I wanted it SO bad, Could'nt think of a Vibe I wanted more. I guess in the meanwhile I will AGAIN try and sell my car or work something out where I can buy the Vibe outright and let my car sit somewhere until it sells. HOPEFULLY This one won't sell. By the way, That Fusion orange by my house I tried to get strangely showed back up on the lot, They people must have returned it. I don't have as much interest in it now that I drove my dream Vibe,.. Sorry to do nothing but ***** about trying to get a Vibe!
