Sulfuric smell

I know this has been a topic already, but I've read it and didn't find any direct answers. So, like others have said I allways thought the smell came from the Catylic converter. Thats what I've been telling everyone thats noticed it and thought I was creating the smell (removed). Could some one give me a direct cause of the smell?

Madbill stated it perfectly in one post...http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id ... #72433Some fuels contain a lot of sulfur and our cat reacts with that sulfur in such a way to create this smell. To get rid of it, try switching brands of fuel or even try going to a different station with the same brand. That's about the only way to resolve this at this point. If possible, find a fuel with a lower sulfur content.

No problem. Hopefully you can find a brand that makes a difference. I used Mobil when I lived in Ohio, but now I use Sinclair.

Sulfuric smell?! I didn't know Sulfuric acid had a smell. Maybe you mean Sulfur smell.I've found that I get the sulfur smell with low octane gas (87). 93 octane doesn't doesn't produce the smell.

Have a quick look at the battery! If it is wet on the top or sides it has been overcharged and could be leaking a mild sulphuric acid! Get the alternator checked as well because if there is a leak the voltage regulator has failed!

I'm surprised how well my car runs on it. I always thought of it as the cheap no-name gasoline, but it's better than Exxon.

I live in michigan and I can't use Mobile gas in my GT which takes only 93 without bad smells, I switched to Shell and no problems my gas MPG even went up. I also try to fill up at the same gas sation every time, and also use the same brand/type of oil in every oil change. I've kept to this (removed) way of thinking and has worked great for me so far
