Still Waiting for My Vibe

So I've been enjoying my Vibe vicariously through all the wonderful folks on this forum. I ordered it on Aug26 and it still has yet to be built by the folks at NUMMI. I've gotten cold feet over paint issues and sweaty palms over discussions of CAIs and 8K red lines.I just wanted to say thanks to all the contributors of this site, especially the admins. I've learned so much about the Vibe that I've actually been educating the Pontiac dealer I've been working with - he had no clue that any changes were made in the '04s vs. the '03s for example. The waiiting goes on, the latest estimate is another month - end of October delivery. At least I can still feel like a Vibe owner thanks to this site!

Good luck being patient. Must be tough. Also, sure you know, but had to say anyway, the 8k redline is for GT, base is lower

I ordered mine in mid-August of last year and didn't take delivery until October 30...and that was about a month earlier than it was expected. So just be patient, it's worth it.

Yup it's hard waiting, glad to hear you feel it's worth the wait. I'm so jealous whenever I see a Vibe, but have yet to see a fusion orange. Maybe we need a new forum - Vibe Support Group - for folks considering a Vibe or waiting on one. LOL.

Yes, I already have an emotional attachment to mine - and I don't even have it yet! What made you decide to order - couldn't find an exact match or was dealer stock just low at the time? I wanted a fusion with side air bags and alloys - there were just none to be found. Current rebates also expired today.

Couldn't find an exact match at the dealer...and also we got a bigger discount for ordering because of the GM Employee discount. I'm thinking of doing something for my car for her birthday. But I havne't figured out what yet. LOL

If you were in Canada, you'd be waiting till February.Don't worry about the current incentives. By the time your VIBE arrives, there'll be more incentives.

I settled on a color I didn't like since it was on the lot and my bonus GM card incentive was running out. I wish I could have ordered my exact car. Enjoy.

Cool - I also qualify for the GM employee discount. Based on everyone's responses, I guess waiting a few more weeks isn't sooo bad.

GM Sweetens Incentives to Boost SalesDETROIT (Reuters) - General Motors Corp. (NYSE:GM - news) on Wednesday sweetened its U.S. sales incentives on much of its lineup, and offered "bonus cash" on many pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles, to help lure customers into showrooms. The new incentives increase the cash payments offered and extend zero-percent financing to more vehicles. The deals include cash rebates totaling up to $4,500 on some models and interest-free loans for up to five years on most 2003 and 2004 model-year passenger cars and trucks, GM said.GM, the world's largest automaker, has led Detroit's profit-eroding incentive war for the past two years as it sought to bolster demand for new vehicles and offset lackluster economic growth.GM and other leading automakers were due to release their September U.S. sales results later on Wednesday. After an extremely strong August, September sales are expected to fall back to more normal levels. The high costs of incentives have forced automakers to cut costs further. Ford Motor Co. (NYSE:F - news) said this week that it will cut about 3,000 salaried jobs in the United States, in addition to job cuts at its unprofitable European operations.GM's new incentive program includes "bonus cash" of $500 or $1,000 on many of its highly profitable pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles.Big Three automakers have been forced to offer higher incentives on pickups and SUVs, their strongest products, as Asian and European automakers have come out with new models. Nissan Motor Co. Ltd.'s (7201.T) new Pathfinder Armada full-size SUV officially goes on sale on Wednesday, and later this year Nissan will launch its new Titan full-size pickups. Both vehicles are Nissan's first in those segments.GM's incentive program includes zero percent financing for loans of up to five years, and 1.9 percent for six-year loans, for both 2003 and 2004 models.GM is offering cash rebates of $3,000 cash, plus bonus cash of $500 or $1,000 on many pickups and SUVs, on the bulk of its lineup. For its 2004 models, GM is offering $2,000 cash plus bonus cash of up to $1,000 on pickups and SUVs, for most of its lineup.Hummer SUVs, Cadillacs and Saabs are excluded from the cash rebate and extended zero-percent financing offers.GM's incentives expire on Nov. 3 for its 2004 models. The incentives on its 2003 models expire on Jan. 2.

tots:In regards to the paint, you've got a major advantage. You can help beat the problem before it starts! Talk to a body shop, ask what you can do to protect that thin paint. I'm under the impression a half dozen coats of a strong wax would help, but I'm speculating. But whatever they tell you to do, you can make sure it's done right when it comes off the truck, or at least as soon as you can after delivery.Might also wanna consider a front end cover if it isn't a look that bothers you...Honestly, if I could go back, I would probably get a front end cover...lately, they don't look so bad...

Very good points. I do have a stone/bug deflector and mud flaps on order - I've been toldk they will help. I did look at a thread that described a 3M product that could be applied to the most vulnerable paint surfaces (leading edges of hood, front pillars, bottom of quarter panels). I looked like the way to go until another member attached a picture of a 7 year old vehicle that had the 3M product applied - all the plastic sheets turned slightly yellow / orange - it looked pretty bad.I'm skeptical that wax will strengthen the clear coat, even though claims are being made. Probably the only 'real' solution is an extra coat(s) of clear coat paint. Hmmm - next GM will probably offer this as an option you have to pay for!! LOL.I've seen the covers and just can't bring myself around to that look, so I guess the deflector is a compromise. I've read alot about paint issues - it's my only reservation about the car. I dunno - since my car on order is fusion orange, maybe the rusting paint chips will blend in??
