Yes, mine pops too and my exhaust is stock. Guess I've never thought of it as a problem.

I have an Injen CAI, yes. But, it did the same thing before I got the CAI. It's not a very loud pop, and the only time I've noticed it is when I run the car up to about 5K and push the clutch to shift. I figure it's just what the engine does as it wraps back down. If anyone thinks otherwise, let's hear it.

Mine definitely pop's, but only if i seem to be running cold and during engine braking. If i'm in first - third gear and using the engine to slow the car, every once in a while it'll make a mini-backfire. That's what i've always called it anyway. I try not to engine brake, and the car never does it while accelerating. I only noticed this after the exhaust and CAI install.

I guess thats the way they come factory. To me thats to rich, and we would get gas mileage if they didnt run that rich. also more performance. Now all i need is a Apexi AFCS 2. Anybody have any ideas?

find a good dyno shop, and pay 50 bucks to have your car dyno'd with the air fuel mixture included onto it or pay the little bit extra, then you will know if it is rich for sure, dont go out and spend the money on the Apex-i controller until you know for sure.yogi

that problem is probably nota rich condition .but a change in backpressure during shifts or whenever on a freeflowing exhaust. i dont think its that important to worry about.most newer cars shouldnt run rich except at wide open throttle(o2 sensor and ecu adjust to slightly lean on most condition.)and with cia you should run a little leaner(not dangerously lean) than stock

quote:that problem is probably nota rich condition .but a change in backpressure during shifts or whenever on a freeflowing exhaust. You are exactly right Satur9. A free-flowing exhaust will tend to "pop" whenever RPMS drop suddenly. It has nothing to do with backfire or being too rich. The GT may pop a bit sometimes though. Drop it from those high RPMs and it can happen from the sudden decrease in exhaust.

Not at WOT it shouldn't POP. Just when its cold not warm. I Have a o2 Trans am LS1 (modded). It pops when its cold, and also pops when i shift when its cold not (warm)My T/A has a full exhaust. Headers/ORY-pipe/magnaflow. Like i said it pops only when cold.I still thinks its a rich condition,it shouldny pop At part throttle shifts when warm. Or should it??i JUST thought of this, iam running a 3" Ramair from the grills maybe all the airflow is making me run lean. So the ECU is over correcting it. That explians alot. Thats why tip is blacker then chit all the time.

Thats why tip is blacker then chit all the time.Well, as I mentioned earlier, mine has done this since I bought it. The exhaust tip has had black on it since about the second week of ownership. It can't be my CAI since that was put on more than a year after I purchased the car. I think it's just the way this little engine is. But if you'd like to go through all the testing and adjustment, let us know what you find out. This would definitely be a case where it would be beneficial to be proven wrong.

I've never heard of the GT's running rich...From what I've seen and heard, we run EXTREMELY LEAN! Pull your plugs and take a look. It's almost scarey! Go get a diagnostic ran and see what it says. I don't know how much an exhaust is gonna lean you out, if that is truely what you need. These motors are too smart for their own good!

quote:Not at WOT it shouldn't POP. I agree. Not trying to flame, but I gotta ask....you are using Premium gas in your GT right? If so and the issue exists, I'd take the puppy in to the dealer.

Yes it does, when you motor is cold and you rev it. It pops doesnt it? Due to the fact the ecu is dumping more fuel to warm the motor up right?
