ok, i know theres tons of posts about CAI's, but i am to lazy to read thru all of them for a pretty simple anwser. My question is:for those who have a base vibe with a CAI, can you really feel any difference in performance? i know for gt owners, they say at 5000 rpm's they feel a difference or something like that. but how does having a auto feel with a CAI?? is it worth the money?would that AEM intake work on the vibe base? (the one being advertised in the for sale forum)hope my non-mechanical educated question made sense. thanks

i have awd, and i would say that in the power band, the change is great, not to mention the sound. it also seems to go off the line a bit better as well. get it, as long as you can afford it, you won't be sorry.

Along with Methead I'm also to lazy to search.I've come to the conclusion that CAI's are worth the money in performance gains but I have a real concern about possible engine damage due to water intake.Has anyone here experienced this? Is it something worth being concerned about? Like I said, I like the idea of a CAI, but I can't render Slick useless on rainy days - my boss just wouldn't understand.

I stand by my previous statements on the subject. There's almost nothing to worry about. Just avoid large puddles and you should be fine. In order to suck up any significant amount of water, you would need to completely submerge the filter in water. Take a look at the front of your Vibe, and near at the top of the cladding on the front. That's about where the water would have to get to in order to have any concern. If you don't think you'll ever drive through anything that deep (I know I wouldn't) go buy a CAI.
As long as it's made for a Matrix XR or Base or Base Vibe, yes. It will work just fine. I can't tell from any of the photos posted in the for sale forum if it is or not though.
ok thanks. he said its for a base or xr, but you never know. i guess ill have to wait and see for sure. now, i just have install it. hopefully i can figure it out. never worked on a motor before. but, i have jesus!

Excellent! As long as the intake is right for the car, you won't have any trouble installing it. The short-ram should be simple to put in. The CAI was fairly easy, and it's a much more involved process. Congrats on the purchase!

heres a dumb question. are all intakes the same more or less if they are made for the specific car? like the aem short ram and the injen one, do they add the same performance level?

I would think this should be the same for the short-rams (AEM should be similar in power to the other short-rams). You won't get as much power out of a short-ram as a CAI, but it should still be quite a change from stock.
oh. that sucks, i figured they were all they same. is there a place to get estimated HP from all the different intakes for vibes? or anyone know about how much the AEM short ram adds?

not from my own knowlege, but from a previous thread, it was stated that the cai vs short ram has little or no difference in gain. it was said that the air from the cai isn't significantly cooler than the short ram, at least not enough for a performance gain. the cai is quoted as adding 8hp to the wheels.(that's what injen says)

I agree for the most part. I still maintain that a short-ram does not afford the same increase as a CAI. Is the difference significant? Probably not. Meathead, I think you'll enjoy this intake just fine. Even if it's not the same gain as another intake, I think you'll be just as happy and you've saved a pile of cash.
if i remember correctly it was about a 3-4 hp difference b/w short and full CAI. I wish I had the short so it would be easier to deal with. I have the TRD CAI on mine.
I Wa. it would not make as big a difference as for me in HOT Ca. A short ram sucks in heat from the engine compartment vs. cold air from the bumper so you always get more HP in the summer from a cai. For me only a cai would work.
