Low volume on normal radio channels, loud static on off-channels -- 2005 base model w/ Monsoon Audio

Hi all, first post here! I've got a 2005 model with the Moon & Tune package (I believe with the Monsoon Audio factory upgrade).
Factory head unit still installed, no other upgrades.
Recently my stereo volume became almost inaudible (but still clearly tuned and playing music faintly) when tuned to FM stations, apart from a popping sound every few seconds that is much louder than the signal. When it is tuned just off-frequency however, the static is quite loud (similar to what the volume *should* be).
I typically use a 12v FM transmitter to connect my phone's bluetooth, and I noticed that when I tune the transmitter 0.1MHz offset to the head unit (e.x. with my receiver tuned to 87.5 and my FM transmitter tuned to 87.6) I hear the signal very loudly but highly distorted. This is expected, however when I correct the transmitter to match my receiver frequency, the distortion goes away but the volume dips dramatically.
Seeing as my amplifier is still kicking, my suspicion is with the head unit. It is already quite old and ready to be replaced (the backlight is out, and the button labels are all but history). I've checked that my antenna is on tightly after removing it & cleaning the contacts. Any advice on further troubleshooting would be greatly appreciated!
