I am new to these forums, and considering buying a 2004 Vibe GT! I am curious, does the 2004 (1st gen?) model have any notable engine or transmission issues (or any other issues) I should be aware of before buying? I'm interested in it for learning to drive stick shift.

Also, I am aware that this vibe in particular takes premium only. How much per week or month do you spend on gas for this particular Vibe? Does the GT in general get good gas mileage, even while taking premium?

Lastly, the stock engine on this Vibe for sale was swapped out, and currently has a JDM 2ZZ engine. Are there any known problems with this engine in particular?

First off .... WELCOME to GenVibe Twilly I can give you some insight to the reliability and economical value of owning such car as my current daily driver is also a 2004 Vibe GT. Secondly, I "cheat" every now & then and put regular fuel in the tank and have noticed NO difference in performance or mileage. I've been doing this for 75k miles over the past several years and no problems whatsoever. I am averaging 31-32 actual mpg combined (appx. 75% hwy, 25% city). Mine is currently at 200k miles and have owned it since 2018 when it had 125k miles.

The GT engine has a special composite sleeve (for the pistons) that is non-machinable and pretty much bullet proof. So that means the internals should last much longer than a non-GT engine. Seeing how your engine was replaced (I'd be curious what the reason was for) I know nothing about that special rebuilt engine you mentioned. You need to let us know where this Vibe would be primarily driven. Warm climate or cold climate. Seeing how there are very few, if any out there, I'd jump on this opportunity if you can afford it. Get as much history on the car and report back to us so we can better advise you. Good luck!
