Clutch slippage?

Within the last several weeks my 2007 Vibe (manual transmission) started slipping when upshifting to 3rd gear and also 5th gear. The odometer is approx. 123,000 miles. It seems like between 2,000 rpm and 3,000 rpm the revs dip for 4 or 5 seconds, and then acceleration kicks in again. This happens during normal driving, not just during hard pedal-to-the-floor acceleration.

Is this indicating a clutch rebuild is in my future? Or is this a symptom of a transmission problem?

I would think the RPM of the engine should increase when the clutch slips and not dip. If the engine RPM's drop for a few seconds, I wonder if the butterfly in the throttle body is sticking. When was the last time you cleaned the throttle body?

That's an interesting hypothesis.

Seven months ago this service was performed by the auto maintenance & repair shop I rely on:
"Fuel injector service (Cleaned injectors, throttle body, air plenum and intake)."

I'll keep monitoring how it behaves when I drive it. I certainly hope it's something less expensive than a clutch replacement.
