G2 Painted Brake Calipers

Well, after Michigan Meet 2 this past Saturday, I went home and painted my calipers. It was the only time I could set the car aside for the drying time that G2 recommends for their paint. They turned out really good and were really easy to paint. Here are some pics that I took the following morning.Pic 1:

Triton - Looks great. I've been thinking about the same process (but in yellow of course). I was wondering if you would do the fronts and backs (only because the back ones are smaller, they don't show up through the wheel as well.It also looks like your lugs are blue - did you get them from ebay? (My memory is failing me)

If you go with yellow like CaCathy13 did, they will show up a little better because the color is brighter.quote:It also looks like your lugs are blue - did you get them from ebay? (My memory is failing me)Yes I did get them on Ebay. But they had a little darker blue set at AutoZone that I bought but have not put on yet. The set I bought at AutoZone looks like it has a better quality finish on them. The paint is chipping and flaking right off of the ones I got from Ebay.

I don't have an AutoZone near me (about 1 hour away). So, instead of calling and finding out, I'm going to ask you. I'm so lazy!

I got my kit from Ebay. It is a G2 paint kit. It is a lot easier to do than spray painting but a little more expensive. $42 shipped. It is an epoxy coat rather than an enamel. Brush on application. Very easy to apply and the results are very cool!

oopsie....Forgot to say.... Looks nice! I was going to go for Yellow on my Abyss but strongly thinking about the G2 Silver. I wonder how that would look with the badges left w/o overlays. Gold would look real hot if the badges were gold. hmmmm... maybe I'll do that... nah.. I like silver too much.Dave

Sweet! Nice job.I purchased a can of black high-temp caliper spray paint to do the rear drums. The original paint does not hold up well to the heat on the outside edge of the drum. If I find the time, I may paint the front calipers black as well.

Triton,I've read in other posts about the G2 kit that there wasn't enough paint for all four calipers. Is that true? Did you need to do more than one coat? (questions, questions, questions - I feel like the Moody Blues)

(questions, questions, questions - I feel like the Moody Blues)There is way more than enough paint for the calipers on the Vibe. I did two coats on all of the calipers and still had at least half of the paint left, if not more. The rear calipers on the Vibe are really small. The kit says you have enough paint for four calipers or two brake drums. I think that you may have enough paint for calipers and drums, I'm not 100% positive though.BTW, I don't mind the questions. Anything I can do to help a fellow Viber out!

Triton,From the pictures, it looks like you were able to lift your car up and get all 4 tires off at the same time. Do you think it would be a problem doing one at a time (jack car up at corner, remove tire, paint caliper, put wheel back on, lower. repeat 3 more times). Would you need to wait for the paint to dry before putting the wheel back on? If you needed to wait, would the paint you mixed for the other calipers start to dry?

Triton, sweet pics dude!next can you do one at a time and wait for the paint to dry, if so how long of a wait?which might be the best color for my abyss with gunmetal wheels?

You can do one at a time, but I would recommend doing at least two at a time. If I remember right, you have to let them dry like 2 hours before putting the wheel back on and you only have like 4 to 6 hours to use the paint once you have added the activator to the pigment. Then you are supposed to wait a full 24 hours before you drive the car after you have painted the last caliper. As far as which color would look best with your color combination, I think either silver or black woule look really good. Unless you have another bright color on your car, that's what I would go with.

I used the same color as Triton, same G2 kit...I guess we just have similar taste! The EBC Green Stuff brake pads gave it an unexpected, interesting look I like it.

Your cars look very nice, Triton and Psycho!I just painted my calipers with the red kit. I did two wheels at a time, but I didn't see any reason to wait 2 hours to put the wheels back on, since the wheels are pretty open and they don't (obviously) touch the calipers. You just need to be careful when putting the wheels back on.

looks nice guys Frosty, you say you did two at a time, just paint, wait a few repaint, then install thw wheels and two the same for the rear?general ? i have some new rotors to install and need to know if i need to take a nut off to install? or do i just take off the caliper and tug? I am hoping to do the paint and rotor install at the same time, any tips? maybe in stall the rotor than tape and paint? i just don't want to get paint on the new rotors, and the time restraint on the paint seems to slow the project down.

Yes...that's how I did it. I put three coats on the front two, then did the rear.I wouldn't worry about getting paint on your rotors...I didn't get any on mine. I just covered them with newspaper. I would put on the new rotors, then paint the calipers. If you do the fronts then backs, you should have time to replace the rear rotors.Good luck...I don't know how to change the rotors I'm sure madbill or someone could help you with that.

What color did you decide to go with? IMHO...I think yellow would look really nice. I'm afraid that black might not show up at all. I can see my red calipers all the way across the parking lot

If I remember right, I thought it said you had to wait a couple hours to dry. You don't have to wait that long though. I would do the front ones first, and after you get the second coat on and let it dry for about 30 minutes, put the wheels back on and go to the back. Just make sure you don't drive the car for 24 hours after you paint the calipers.

I've been racking my brain trying to figure out how I'm gonna get all four wheels off the ground. The paint directions say that the paint is good for 4-6 hours after the chemicals are mixed together. Plus it says that after painting, you should wait 2 hours before putting the wheels on. That was gonna cut it close. I just need to find a way to get 1/2 of the car up in the air to do two wheels at a time.
