AC line, what's this part called?

2004 Vibe 1.8

About a year ago my AC conked out and the estimate I got from the mechanic was $1500 and maybe it will work, no guarantees. I said no thank you. This past weekend a mechanic friend looked at the AC and said just for fun let's try add some r134a refrigerant. The pressure held until it didn't and the hi-line gasket popped open, spilling out all the r134a refrigerant dye.

Upon closer inspection I noticed the connection piece was loose and a part was missing. So I think what happened is the mechanic took this part off and never bothered to put it back on. I've circled the part in the attachment, it's the black looking brackets that hold the line together while it's under pressure.

It's some sort of tube clamp or retainer clip. Not sure where I would find the part or what it's called.

Thanks!!

There is a PDF of a 2003 Matrix parts catalog here at http://www.genvibe.com/images/misc/manu ... atalog.pdf

In the middle of page 2 of that PDF (page 1174 of some unspecified huge volume), in the AC/HEATER?VENTILATION section,

the clamps are identified as: (diagram number, part name, toyota part number)

6. Clamp, Evap Pipe 88718-02170
14. Clamp, Suction Hose 88718-02160

you may also want/need
7. Seal, Evap Pipe 90480-01405

I'm pretty sure they are the same, however, full disclosure, I have never personally used these part numbers on a Vibe.

A look at one toyota dealership's on-line parts web site, it would cost on the order of $12 US total for all three, so its a small investment to find out for sure.

I also admit I'm no AC expert, but it seems that if all the pressure is gone from the system, once the leaks are fixed, the system needs to be vacuum purged before adding refrigerant. Also, there's the question of how much oil is needed, hopefully someone more AC knowledgeable will chime in, if not maybe start a new thread just on that subject
