So I was looking on the website for the 2004 Vibe and it says the GT has 173 hb at 7600 RPMS ....Correct me if I'm wrong but thats different from the 2003. Well I know it is cause mine will go to 8200 rpms and the peak hp is close to 7800. Anyone else notice this yet. I also know toyota cut the peak rpms down on the 2002 celica and dropped the hp (in 2003 they raised it up again). someone quickly found a way to fix this over there so hopefully someone will with the GT too. here is the link http://www.pontiac.com/vibe/index.jsp?source=hmlnav

http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=4824Here's a thread on why the rating changed.Chances are unless you want to remove that pump, you get what you get. Also, I don't think the rev-limit has been moved in this case, I just think the peak HP is realized lower. It should still rev to the same point as the '03.

I agree.......with you unless they changed the emissions on the 2004 model.

That's exactly what they've done, changed the emissions. Since I don't own one, I can only speculate, but I think all that has happened is the pump has restricted the breathing of the engine and the HP now maxes out at 7600. I would imagine it will still rev up to the previous redline, it just doesn't result in a further increase in the HP rating. Make sense?

I have a 04 GT and rev limit is the same.. the air pump has to do with cold temperature emissions. :/When i was at the first Mich meet with the Quality control guy he said that on the 04's the made 7-8 new lines of code just for that pump.. so taking it out is not an option unless i could instal a 03 ecu

Thanks for the tip. I hadn't thought of the ECU being involved. Should have, but it escaped my thoughts.

Your right about the HP being lower but stock motors always reached peak hp at 7600 RPM.

An air pump usually operates under load only when the engine is cold and only draws 1-2 HP. I'm pretty sure they calibrated the engine to meet a lower emissions standard; among other things likely running it a bit lean at full power. Chances are an aftermarket calibration would give it the same power as a "chipped" '03.
