Thought about posting to the Astronomy thread but its a big event, figured it deserved its own thread.

Is anyone going to do anything special to see the upcoming total solar eclipse?

Won't see it here in Maryland, but I've got relatives in the various parts of the totality path and will likely go visit them for the event. Not sure which, one gets 50% longer totality than the other but I'll get out that way early and check the weather forecast the day before deciding which one get burdened with my visit for the event. Would be disappointing to multi day road trip to see it and have it be overcast.

Went to Wyoming for the one in 2017. Traffic went absolutely nuts after it was over. I expect hotels will be packed for this one.

There are probably some of us GenVibers who actually live directly in it's path. My place in Port Clinton/Catawba Island Ohio is VERY close to the center path this eclipse will be taking. If weather is good, I plan on heading over there to view! :D

Looked it up, and looks like it would be at least 5-6 hrs. from where I live here in Kansas to find a recommended city to watch.

We're getting about 62% here. I have a sister in Vermont who will be in the path of 100%, but I have no intention of traveling that 1500 miles to see it. We had 100% here a few years ago and it was really cool, but it's not pilgrimage worthy to me. Right now I'm just hoping it's not too cloudy tomorrow.

We had to go, considering it was just a short half hour drive for totality. At this location, it will be from 15:06:55 to 15:08:35.

Of course the Vibe gets volunteered for eclipse duty. She may be old, ugly and cranky but there's still nobody better to spend a day like today with. :D

I didn't get any great pictures, but I naturally lived in the path of totality. What an amazing experience. Took the day off and spent it with my kids. The oldest is almost 4, and as we talked about it, he thought it was bed time, then it got light again and you could see the confusion on his face. Wonderful experience, and I am glad I didn't have to travel anywhere to see it! :D
