Hi all, I have a 2009 manual vibe that has a bad clutch and transmission. I also have a 2005 Camry my kid totaled the front end, but it has working automative transmission. Both have the same 2.4L motors in them. Can I take the 2.4L autotrans from the Camry and put it on the Vibe, converting it from manual to auto?
Long answer ... YES. But you better have a ton of time and resources to make the swap. Mounting hardware, wiring harnesses, ECU, & too much other stuff that would have to be changed to where it really is not worth it. If the car is solid, rust free, and you'd like to keep it for awhile, then spend the $$$ and keep it a manual. Also just curious what caused it to fail and at what mileage? Where you located? Climate the car has been driven in?
Thanks for the reply and great info. So the ‘09 needs new clutch and transmission (long story). My daughter just got in a front end wreck with the Camry (no one hurt). So I have two inoperable cars and was wondering what it would take to Frankenstein them together. To make a long story short, both cars have 220k+, so I came to my senses and sold the Camry for $900 and the vibe for $600.
