I did use the genvibe tip of the week, and saw that there was some discussion starting on this impending hurricane, but thought it needed it's own thread. I keep watching the weather channel, they have a projected path, and if it stays down the middle of that path, it'll go right over my house, so I'm a bit concerned about this one. My house is at 46 feet above sea level, so I'm not worried about storm surge, high tide stuff, but there's a bunch of 100 foot poplar trees around my house. Hope none of them snap and crush the Vibe. What are folks doing to get ready for this?

They're calling for it to go further west than they were yesterday, the path is no longer directly over my house. Still gonna come close though

The forum is going to be a little quiet after this storm hits with all the east coast peeps out of power and cable. Good luck! Glad I'm not down there. It's supposed to hit on my B-day.

They used to be only female names, but now they use both male and female. Guess they decided it was sexist or something. Some info at

Storms alternate male and female names. Each name starts with each letter of the alphabet beginning with A at the beginning of the season.

Did you know that a hurricane and a typhoon are two names for the same thing? That is, a tropical cyclone with winds of 65 knots (75 m.p.h.) or more. When these storms happen in the Western Hemisphere (in the Atlantic Ocean, the Caribbean Sea, and the Gulf of Mexico), they are called hurricanes. When they occur in the North Pacific Ocean west of the International Date Line, they are called typhoons.

If your in the path of the eye, is the wind blowing toward land before the eye and then toward the ocean after the eye has passed? I've only been in one hurricane (caught the edge) and one typhoon (got slammed on that one).

I've only been in one hurricane (caught the edge) and one typhoon (got slammed on that one).Depends on the travel path of the storm...if it is heading due west...my suspicions are that the wind would blow south prior to the eye passing over, and then north once it has passed...remember, a hurricane flows clockwise...
