High rpm then low rpm then regular rpm

Post by ZippyDk »

Hello I have a 2004 vibe gt 6 speed 2zz engine 127000 miles, shes been working fine but all of a sudden while on a trip she started to have an rpm issue when shifting its almost like vvti is engaging then disengaging and reengining, high rpm then low rpm then it'll go high then normal and if i barley press the throttle she works ok but not perfect and if you gun it she Boggs down and a few seconds later will speed up fast. any ideas?

Check for pending codes. Assuming the check engine light is normal.

Clean the MAF sensor, replace the air filter.

Run some injector cleaner.

Check fuel pump pressure.

Welcome to the forum and good luck with the problem.

Is the clutch slipping?

The motor is not a 2JZ. It is simply a 2ZZ.

My bad I’ll edit that in a sec, I don’t think it’s that it’s not as bad as that video shows but it kinda has symptoms close to that? So when he gives it gas and it the car goes nowhere but gets high rpm my vibe is kinda doing that but she it’s more if I floor it if I Bartley give it gas I can get her moving normal for a little bit then as soon as it’s time to shift it’ll just rpm’s really fast and want a quick shift

so I double checked and I think the clutch is slipping no codes i tried the maf cleaner and my air filter is still very white and no large debris, I have recived two quotes one for 3250.00 and one for 1718.83 any reason why one guy would change so much more for the parts? the shop rates are the same

One person might be quoting OEM parts + markup. Other might be using aftermarket parts. Either way, the bigger variable there will be how the shop marks up parts. Some mark them up a minimal amount. Others do a high markup.
