03 Vibe 144k Oil Analysis

Post by TYK97 »

Just thought I'd share my 1st oil analysis from BlackStone Labs and was wondering if anyone else has done one/has any thoughts on my analysis.

As you can see BlackStone pointed out some excess chromium (piston ring wear?) in the oil and possible upper end wear.

This is a daily driven year round Chicago 03 Vibe.

entertaining read, although it has about as much statistical impact to me as Ye Old Farmer's Almanac. Your car has done its job. It is over 19 years old and if driven in Chicago its whole life, is in danger from unending corrosive moisture and salt to every electrical, steering and brake component. Analysis: mileage will not be the cause of death of your Vibe, as it seldom is. Make sure you know what car is next for you since it is likely to come sooner than later. Are you the original owner? If so, congratulations.

I got the car in 2015 and have since doubled the miles. I remember hitting 80k in 2017.

I've used Blackstone Labs several times on a few different vehicles. Initially I used them to sample SEVEN year old oil out of my older 1992 F-150 (yeah neglected it a bit ... 9000mile 7-year oil change interval) but it only showed minor engine wear. More importantly was the samples I have taken every other year on three Honda F150x jet skis. Being turbocharged 1.5l engines, the kids who use them have NO variable speeds. It's full throttle or nothing, which leads to fuel dilution in the oil after a season. I end up removing oil instead of adding it. As far as any samples on my Vibes, none yet. My son's 2009 Vibe GT is one of the unfortunate engines that burns a quart every 1500-2000 miles so I'd never bother with that sample. Maybe I'll send one off in one of the other Vibes soon.
