Trailer Hitch install tips

Just installed a new hitch on a 19 year old Vibe GT. Oh my! The frame mounted nuts were awfully dirty and rusted. Didn’t have access to a die or reemer so I improvised. Sprayed WD-40 liberally and carefully used the teeth on a jigsaw blade to rotate around and around the dirty holes. Spent about 30 minutes per hole. All 4 bolts went in with some finesse and elbow grease. Looking forward to hanging my ebike off the back of Bear the Vibe!

I did the WD-40 and various sizes of wire (bottle) brushes to get all the rust out. I'm not sure why you need a bike hitch when you live in one of the greatest urban biking areas in the world! :) We rented a bike near the entrance to Stanley Park and rode the entire park, then down to Whitecaps Stadium and back. Great times.

I used a hacksaw to cut slots on the end of one of the bolts (perpendicular to the threads) and used that as a home made tap to clean out the holes. That and an bunch of WD40 and some rust buster penetrating oil spray.
